Schafer Named H&R Area Coach of Year

Congratulations to Effingham Lady Hearts basketball coach Jeff Schafer, who has been named the 2018 Decatur Herald and Review Girls Basketball Coach of the Year.

Schafer, the winningest coach in program history, led the Lady Hearts to a 31-3 record and a trip to the super-sectionals this past season.

As for players, Effingham junior Carsyn Fearday was named to the All-Area Girls First Team, as was Charleston freshman Shea Littleford, who has many area ties.

Teutopolis senior Jolene Bueker was named to the Second Team, and senior Leah Mayhaus of Altamont was named to the Third Team.

Several area players earned Honorable Mention status, including Blair Banning of Neoga, Sadie Bueker of Teutopolis, Olivia Clausius of St. Anthony, Maddie Craig of North Clay, Audrey Fleener of North Clay, Miranda Fox of Effingham, Abby Frohning of Newton, Marianna Hemmen of Teutopolis, Clare McHugh of St. Anthony, Morgan Mette of Teutopolis, Tinley Mette of Altamont, Macy Michels of Teutopolis, Shelby Myers of Effingham, Jaelyn Robertson of CHBC, Brooke Runge of Altamont, Megan Schlechte of Windsor/Stew-Stras, Anna Shadle of Dieterich, Shelbi Stone of Altamont, Abby Weis of Effingham, and Claire Wilhour of Brownstown/St. Elmo.
