Class 1A, 2A Boys Basketball, Area 3-Point Qualifiers, All-Academic Girls Team

In the Class 1A boys basketball super-sectionals Tuesday evening:

Goreville downed Moweaqua Central A&M, 74-61 at the Carbondale SIU Super-sectional. Annawan downed Colfax Ridgeview 39-32 at Normal. Sterling Newman Central Catholic edged Chicago Providence-St. Mel 61-60 at DeKalb and Okawville went two overtimes before beating Peoria Quest Charter Academy 65-64 at Jacksonville.

In the Class 1A State Tournament Friday, Sterling Newman Central Catholic faces Annawan at 11:15 a.m. while Okawville takes on Goreville at 1 p.m. at Peoria's Carver Arena. The winners advance to the state title Saturday at 1 p.m. while the losers square off for third at 11:15.

In Class 2A super-sectionals, Pinckneyville downed Mount Carmel 60-47 at Carbondale while Winnebago beat Chicago Corliss 58-55 at DeKalb. Chicago Orr beat Chicago Hope Academy 74-64 at Joliet Central and Bloomington Central Catholic edged Deer Creek-Mackinaw 47-46 at Springfield.

Pinckneyville will meet Winnebago at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Class 2A State Tournament while Chicago Orr faces Bloomington Central Catholic at 7:15 p.m. The winners advance to the championship game Saturday at 7:15 while the losers meet for third place at 5:30.

 

Three-Point Showdown

In the Class 1A Three-Point Showdown, Neoga's Mitchell Cornell, a junior, will participate in Group 1. Jordan Hosick, a senior from Cisne, will compete in Group 2 and Seth Nix, a senior from Odin, will compete in Group 3.

In Class 2A, Braden Peterson, a senior from Mount Carmel, will be in Group 1. Cale Powell, a sophomore from Lawrenceville, will compete in Group 2. Chance Black, a junior from Robinson, will compete in Group 3.

 

All-State Academic Teams

Named to the All-Academic Team from the area was Alex Beesley from Effingham St. Anthony.

Named Honorable Mention were Maryanna Saba from Effingham St. Anthony, Tucker Rieman from Newton, Cassandra Cook from Mount Zion and Caroline Boehne from Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran.
