EHS Moves Into Regional Title Game Friday

What's gotten into Effingham High School? Winning, that's what.

Effingham came up with a big 66-49 victory over Tolono Unity Wednesday evening and will now play for the Class 3A Paris Boys Basketball Regional championship Friday at 7 p.m.

The Hearts have put together two victories at Paris and outscored their opponents 129-82.

EHS ripped off to an 18-6 opening quarter lead as five players contributed points. Ryan Sandifer scored five while Landon Wolfe and Cole Marxman had four each.

Then it was time for Mason Hull to take over the scoring. The 6-foot senior tallied seven points as he connected on a regular basket, a three-pointer and two free throws. L. Wolfe also went to work with two baskets and two free throws for six as the Hearts held a 33-18 halftime lead.

It was three-point power in the third quarter. Hull connected on two and L. Wolfe one and the Hearts held a 47-34 lead going into the final quarter.

From there, it was Marxman's turn to shine. He nailed four baskets for eight of his 16 total points. Hull and L. Wolfe also chipped in with five each.

Hull led the way for the Hearts with 21 points while L. Wolfe added 20 and Marxman 16. Marxman led the way in rebounds with 10 while Wolfe pulled down nine and Matt Robinson seven. Dylan Bushur had two blocked shots. Robinson had four assists while Wolfe had three steals.

The Hearts improve to 14-15 on the season.
