Altamont, Dieterich, T-town Win Regional Titles

HUTSONVILLE -- Altamont High School claimed the champoinship of the Class 1A Hutsonville/Palestine Boys Basketball Regional by edging National Trail Conference opponent St. Elmo/Brownstown Friday evening, 58-55.

The Indians ripped out to a 20-10 opening quarter lead but SEB came roaring back to pull within 28-26 at halftime. The Eagles then had an 11-7 third quarter to lead 37-35 going into the final quarter.

That's when Altamont got back on track. The Indians then had a 23-18 final period run to pull out the victory.

Three players hit double figures for the Indians. Mitchell Stevenson led the way with 24 points while Alek Biggs added 14 and Denver Duckwitz 10. Duckwitz led in rebounds with seven while Stevenson pulled down six. Stevenson and Biggs had two assists each. Biggs led in steals with two.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Lewis Brown with 20 and Isaac Maxey with 15. Andy Goldsborough led in rebounds with eight. Brown had three assists and three steals while  Maxey had three steals.

SEB ends the season with an 18-10 record.

Altamont advances to the Class 1A Moweqaua Central A&M Sectional with a 19-11 mark and will face Nokomis at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

 At Patoka

Dieterich had a hard-fought battle but came out the regional champion at the Class 1A Patoka Regional Friday.

The Movin' Maroons edged out to a 15-11 opening quarter lead on Odin. Odin came back to push ahead 29-20 at halftime.

Then it was Dieterich's turn. The Maroons moved within 38-36 going into the final quarter with a 16-9 run.

Dieterich continued it's momentum with a 26-19 final period as Callaway Campton scored 12 points and Ryan Radloff nine.

Campton ended leading the Maroons with 22 points while Radloff added 19 and Tyler Higgs 10.

Odin was led by Shaffer with 22 and Nix with 18.

 At Casey

Teutopolis claimed the championship of the Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional with a 53-42 win over Casey-Westfield Friday.

It was even scornig up and down the lineup for the Wooden Shoes. T-town took a 13-7 opening quarter lead and led 28-17 at halftime and 42-27 going into the final quarter.

Lee Hardiek led in scoring with 11 points and pulled down six rebounds. Eric Kremer, Clint Weber and Dawson Smith scored 10 points each. Kreke led in rebounds with 12 while Smith had 10 and Weber eight. Weber had three blocked shots.

The Shoes improved to 21-8 on the season and will now face Eldorado at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Robinson Sectional.

At Nokomis

Neoga High School fell victim to host Nokomis in the Class 1A Nokomis Regional Friday evening.

Nokomis took a 10-5 opening quarter lead but Neoga came back with a 14-13 run to pull within four points at halftime.

Nokomis then had a 32-21 second half.

Leading Neoga was Jackson Clark with 15 points while Drew Ramert tallied 12. The Indians end the season with a 15-13 record.
