The two winningest high school girls basketball programs in Illinois history squared off in a state Class 2A semifinal game Friday night and the team with the most wins had to go double-overtime to beat the second winningest school.

The result put Chicago Marshall into the state championship game Saturday at 7:15pm at Redbird Arena on the campus of Illinois State University in Bloomington-Normal, and placed the Teutopolis Lady Shoes into the third place game Saturday at 5:30pm. Friday's game was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com. Tonight's game can be heard there, as well.

The result was frustrating for Teutopolis, since the Lady Shoes scored the first 15 points of the game. It was 11-0 Shoes at the end of the first quarter, and Chicago Marshall remained scoreless until halfway through the second period, but the Commandos kicked it in gear from that point.

Marshall was within 21-9 at halftime and trailed just 27-21 after three quarters. Marshall closed the gap by outscoring the Lady Shoes 15-9 in the final period to knot the game at 36-36 and send the contest to overtime.

The first overtime ended 2-2, but Marshall got the edge, outscoring T-Town 8-5 in the second overtime period to get the win.

Marshall shot 13% from the field in the first half, 3 of 23, but finished 17 of 56 for 30%, including 3 of 13 threes. Marshall made 9 of 14 foul shots, grabbed 31 rebounds, and turned the ball over just eight times.

Teutopolis shot a hair under 36% from the field, making 15 of 42 shots, including 3 of 8 threes. The Shoes made 10 of 15 foul shots, pulled down 23 rebounds, and turned the ball over 12 times.

Macy Michels led Teutopolis with 15 points. Others in double figures were Jolene Bueker and Sadie Bueker with 10 points apiece. Marianna Hemmen scored four points, and Claire Bushur and Morgan Mette two points each.

Dyanla Rainey led Marshall with 16 points.

The win leaves Chicago Marshall at 21-7 on the season, while Teutopolis, now 28-7, will take on Eureka at 5:30pm for third place. Marshall will play Chicago Harlan at 7:15pm for the 2A state championship. We will have the Lady Shoes game tonight on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com. Harlan beat Eureka 55-50 in the other semifinal.

Earlier, Stockton will play Danville Schlarman for the 1A state championship. Stockton beat Okaw Valley 58-43, while Schlanser downed Lebanon 51-40.
