SEB, Neoga, Dieterich Advance in Boys Regionals

HUTSONVILLE -- St. Elmo/Brownstown High School went overtime to pull out a 79-73 victory over Hutsonville/Palestine in the Class 1A Hutsonville/Palestine Boys Basketball Regional Wednesday.

The Eagles trailed H/P 17-14 after the opening quarter and 31-25 at halftime. Hutsonville/Palestine continued to build its lead with a 16-9 third quarter.

But here came SEB with a 30-17 final period run to knot the score at 64-64. The Eagles then had a 15-9 overtime run for the six-point win.

Lewis Brown was the big gun for the Eagles. The 5-foot-9 senior knocked in 12 field goals, including four three-pointers, and hit 13 of 24 free throws for a whopping 41 points.

Also in double figures was Andy Goldsborough with 20. He connected on six field goals and was five of eight at the line.

St. Elmo/Brownstown advances to the championship game against National Trail Conference opponent Altamont at 7 p.m. Friday.

Class 1A Nokomis Regional

Neoga edged Buffalo Tri-City, 47-41 in the Nokomis Regional Wednesday evening.

The Indians edged out to a 9-8 opening quarter but Tri-City came back to lead 18-17 at halftime. The Indians then had a 15-9 third quarter count and held off Tri-City in the final period.

Three players hit double figures for Neoga. Leading the way was Drew Ramert with 12 points followed by Reese Johnson with 11 and Caleb Hill with 10.

In the opener Wednesday evening, Nokomis bounced Ramsey, 71-28.

Neoga will take on Nokomis at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship.

Class 1A Patoka Regional

Dieterich handed National Trail Conference foe, North Clay (Louisville) a 66-51 loss in the Patoka Regional Wednesday.

The Movin' Maroons stepped out to a 13-7 opening quarter lead and led 28-21 at halftime. Dieterich then had a big 20-8 third quarter but North Clay mounted a final period comeback with a 22-18 run but it was too little, too late.

Ryan Radloff, Tyler Higgs and Callaway Campton provided even scoring for the Marroons. Radloff and Higgs tallied 19 each while Campton added 18.

North Clay was led by Quincy Aldrich with 16 and Aleon Rinehart with 12.

In the second game, another NTC team, South Central, fell to Odin, 50-43.

Dieterich now faces Odin at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg saw its season come to a close with a 62-48 loss to  Moweaqua Central A&M at the Windsor Regional Wednesday.

Central A&M took a 12-9 opening quarter lead and led 26-19 at halftime. Central A&M then had a 20-16 third period.

Christian Kessler led the Hatchets with 19 points while Isaac Kramer scored 11 and Gavin Bennett with 10. WSS finishes the season with a 13-16 record.

In the second game, Mulberry Grove edged Bethany Okaw Valley, 49-45.

Central A&M with a 19-8 record, will face Mulberry Grove (20-9) at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship.

Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Newton Coach Doug Mammoser saw his team's season and his coaching career come to an end as the Eagles fell to Casey-Westfield Wednesday.

The two teams started with a 14-14 opening quarter but Casey-Westfield took off with a 19-5 second period run. The Eagles pulled back within eight points going into the final period but the Warriors had control with 13 of 16 from the free throw line.

Netown's Nick Cohorst tallied 22 points and finished over 1,000 points for his career. Also in double figures was Jack Chapman with 12.

The Eagles finish the season with a 19-9 record.

Casey-Westfield advances to face Teutopolis at 7 p.m. for the regional championship.
