Altamont, S.C., Neoga, T-town Advance in Regionals

HUTSONVILLE -- Altamont High School provided a real thrill for its fans with a 44-43 victory over Cisne in the Class 1A Hutsonville Boys Basketball Regional Tuesday evening.

The Indians and Cisne were tied at 6-6 in the first quarter and 18-18 at halftime. The Runnin' Lions moved ahead 32-28 going into the final quarter as they hit six of six from the free throw line.

Down by six points with around a minute remaining in the game, Altamont began it's move. Mitchell Stevenson knocked in two three-pointers in the quarter while Aidan Jahraus scored five including a big three-pointer that brought the Indians within the lead. Alek Biggs came up huge with a three-point shot around the five second mark that gave the Indians a 44-43 win.

Stevenson finished with 22 points while Biggs added 12.

Cisne was led by Potter with 14 points and Hosick with nine.

Altamont now faces either St. Elmo/Brownstown or Martinsville Friday for the regional championship. SEB and Martinsville square off tonight at 7.

 Class 2A Casey-Westfield Regional

Teutopolis held a 31-25 halftime lead then went on for a 34-27 second half and downed Marshall, 65-52 in the Casey-Westfield Regional.

The Wooden Shoes went to the line five times in the opening quarter and hit nine of 12. Clint Weber led the way with nine points.

He continued his run with seven more points as the Shoes led 31-25 at halftime. Weber then had a 10 pont third quarter and the Shoes pushed into a 49-36 lead.

Weber, a 6-foot-6 junior, led the way with 26 points while Eric Kremer added 14, Lee Hardiek 11 and Dawson Smith 10.

Smith finished with three assists. Kremer owned the boards with 11 while Weber had seven. Smith and Weber had three steals apiece.

The Wooden Shoes improve to 20-8 on the season and advance to the title contest Friday at 7 against either Casey-Westfield or Newton. Those two teams play tonight at 7.

Class 1A Nokomis Regional

Two National Trail Conference teams competed in this regional and Neoga came out a winner while Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City suffered a loss Tuesday evening.

In the opener, Neoga easily handled Niantic Sangamon Valley to the tune of 57-20. The Indians swept out to a 16-4 opening quarter lead then held Sangamon Valley scoreless in the second period for a 36-8 halftime lead.

Only one player finished in double figures for the Indians while a total of 10 scored in the contest. Reese Johnson, a 5-foot-10 freshman, led the way with 13 points.

in the second game, Buffalo Tri-City picked up a 63-57 win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

Tri-City ripped off to a 20-2 opening quarter lead. CHBC fought back with a 36-30 second half but couldn't get over that first quarter.

Three players scored in double figures for the Bobcats. Nick Miller finished with 15 while Trace Smith added 13 and Keegan Martin 12. Miller pulled down 10 rebounds.

Tonight's games feature Nokomis againsrt Ramsey at 6 p.m. followed by Neoga taking on Buffalo Tri-City at 7:30. The winners advance to the championship game Friday.

Class 1A Patoka Regional

South Central advanced in the Patoka Regional.

The Cougars handed Patoka a 53-31 loss.

In the opener, Odin pounded Sandoval 88-18.

Tonight's games feature Dieterich facing North Clay (Louisville) at 6 followed by South Central taking on Odin at 7:30. The winenrs advance to the title contest Friday at 7 p.m.

 

Class 1A Windsor Regional

Two games were contested in the Windsor Regional.

Mulberry Grove won over Chrisman, 80-56. In the second contest, Bethany Okaw Valley downed Hume Shiloh 55-32.

In tonight's games, Moweaqua Central A&M faces Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg at 6 followed by Mulberry Grove against Bethany Okaw Valley at 7. The winners advance to the title contest Friday at 7 p.m.
