Sigel St. Michael Eighth-Grade State Champions

The Sigel St. Michael Sharpshooters are the state champions of Class 8-1A boys basketball.

St. Michael won the championship game 40-30 Thursday night over Peoria St.Mark in action at Bartonville Limestone High School.

The Sharpshooters led the game 14-4 after one quarter, were up 18-10 at halftime, led 28-18 after three quarters and matched St. Mark 12-12 in the fourth quarter to post the 10-point win.

Craig Croy, who scored 30 or more points in both of the first two games at State, led St. Michael with 19 points. Max Niebrugge was also in double figures with 12 points. Also for the Sharpshooters: Kaden Young with seven points, and Dylan Will with two points.

St.Michael finishes its state championship season with a 25-2 record.

Third place went to Lovejoy over Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell, 43-38.

A reception for the Sharpshooters will be held on Sunday, February 17 at 11:00 am.  The team will be paraded around Sigel on a fire truck first, followed by the public reception at the St. Michael gym in Sigel.
