HILLSBORO -- Effingham claimed the championship of the Hillsboro Freshman Boys Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

The Hearts edged Marquette, 51-49. Marquette held a 14-7 opening quarter lead and led 26-23 at halftime. Marquette was still in the lead 42-36 going into the final quarter.

From there, the Hearts mounted a furious rally, holding Marquette to seven points while racking up 15 to pull out the victory.

Drew Thompson scored 25 while Tristin Duncan added 11.

 At Olney

Teutopolis picked up freshman/sophomore victories Monday evening.

The Wooden Shoes claimed the freshman contest, 49-39. Olney held an 18-11 opening quarter lead and led 28-22 at halftime. T-town came back with a 14-2 third period and went on for the victory.

Evan Addis tallied 17, Matthew Deters 14 and Jordan Hardiek 12 for the Shoes.

In the sophomore contest, T-town ran off to an 11-2 opening quarter lead and finished out with a 44-35 victory over Olney.

Gavin Huber led the way for the Shoes with nine while Brady McMahon and Jacob Pals tallied seven each.
