Lady Shoes Advance to Sectional Final

The Teutopolis Lady Shoes exhibited airtight defense in the first half on their way to a 60-39 win over the the Mt. Carmel Lady Aces and a berth in the final of the St. Anthony Class 2A Sectional Tournament. The game was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com. 

Teutopolis allowed Mt. Carmel just one basket in the first half, and just six points on only 13 shots. The Lady Aces were one of six from the field in the first quarter and oh for seven in the second period. They did make 4 of 4 foul shots in the half.

Meanwhile, Teutopolis rolled up 30 points of their own in the half on 12 of 30 shooting and 5 of 7 from the line.

The Lady Shoes led 11-2 after one quarter and outpointed Mt. Carmel 19-4 in the second period.

Mt. Carmel actually outscored T-Town in the second half, but the damage was done.

For the game, Teutopolis made 25 of 51 shots, 49%, including 2 of 5 threes. The Shoes made 8 of 10 free throws, grabbed 23 rebounds and turned the ball over 19 times, 14 in the second half.

Mt. Carmel finished the game 11 of 35, 31%, including 3 of 15 threes. They made 14 of 17 foul shots, pulled down 19 rebounds, but turned the ball over 25 times.

Jolene Bueker led Teutopolis with 14 points with six rebounds. Marianna Hemmen scored 12 points on five of eight shooting, and Sadie Bueker scored 11 points with five rebounds and four assists. Macy Michels and Claire Bushur each scored eight points, Olivia Niemerg three, and Hope Bueker and Lexie Niebrugge two each.

Kylie Applebey led Mt. Carmel with 12 points, 10 in the fourth quarter.

Mt. Carmel finished 18-12 for the season. Teutopolis improved to 26-6 and will take on Sullivan in the sectional final Thursday at 7pm. Sullivan got by Marshall 45-41 in the first game Monday.
