Sigel St. Michael advanced to the championship game of the Class 8-1A State Boys Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Sharpshooters bounced Annawan, 67-22 in their first game. St. Michael ripped out to a 22-3 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Craig Croy tallied 38 points for the winners while Kaden Young chipped in with 12.

In the semifinal contest, St. Michael trailed Lovejoy 12-10 after the opening quarter but took a 19-17 halftime lead.

St. Michael then led 32-29 going into the final quarter and had a 13-11 final period.

Croy tallied 30 points for the Sharpshooters while Max Niebrugge added 11.

In other games Saturday, Lovejoy beat Pontiac St. Mary's, 51-30; Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell downed Ottawa Wallace 47-19 and Peoria St. Mark beat Champaign Next Generation, 35-24. In the other semifinal game, Peoria St. Mark defeated Lincoln, 39-31.

St. Michael is now 24-2 on the season and will play for the state champioinship against Peoria St. Mark at 7:30 p.m. Thursday while Lovejoy and Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell will meet for third place at 6 p.m.

Class 8-2A State Tournament

Effingham St. Anthony fell in opening round play at the Class 8-2A State Tournament at Mount Pulaski High School Saturday.

The Bullpups lost to Colchester West Prairie, 44-26. West Prairie led 11-7 after the first quarter and 37-12 at halftime.

Kyle Stewart tallied seven points for the Bullpups. St. Anthony finished the season with a 15-10 record.

In other games, Peoria St. Vincent de Paul 51, Decatur Johns Hill 48; Madison 50, Joliet Laraway 24 and Peoria Heights St. Thomas 47, Heyworth 32. In the semifinals, Colchester 50, Peoria St. Vincent de Paul 39 and Madison 62, Peoria Heights St. Thomas 29.

The third place game will have Peoria St. Vincent de Paul taking on Peoria Heights St. Thomas at 6 p.m. Thursday for third place while Colchester West Prairie faces Madison at 7:30 for the state title.

At Rend Lake College

Altamont Lutheran fell in the third place contest of the SIJHSAA Class S State Tournament Saturday at Rend Lake College.

Lutheran fell to Steeleville, 41-27 to finish fourth.

In the championship game, Bartelso was a 57-46 winner over Carrier Mills for the state championship.
