Three area junior high boys teams advanced in state tournament basketball action after playing Saturday.

Class 7-3A State Tournament

Teutopolis advanced to the championship of the Class 7-3A State Tournament with two victories Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes downed Calumet Park, 42-31. Calumet Park led 9-7 in the opening quarter but T-town came back to lead 22-16 at halftime then had a 20-15 second half.

Brendan Niebrugge led the Shoes with 12 points while Logan Roepke added nine.

In other scores, Glenwood Brookwood downed Maroa-Forysth, 54-38, Springfield Lincoln beat Washington MS, 48-16 and Farmington Central defeated PIasa Southwestern, 44-24.

In the semifinals, T-town went double overtime before beating Glenwood Brookwood, 64-60.

Brookwood held a 20-17 halftime lead and led 36-29 going into the final quarter. The Shoes then had a 17-10 final period to knot the score. Both teams tallied six points in the first overtime. T-town then had a 12-8 second overtime run to pull out the win.

B. Niebrugge led the way with 25 points while James Niebrugge added 16 and Caleb Siemer 12.

In the other semifinal, Springfield Lincoln won over Farmington Central, 64-51.

Glenwood Brookwood and Farmington Central will meet for third place at 6 p.m. Thursday while T-town will face Springfield Lincoln at 7:30 for the state championship. T-town is 24-2 on the season while Lincoln is 21-2.

Class 7-1A State Tournament

Stewardson-Strasburg picked up an opening round victory over Lexington, 46-31 in the Class 7-1A State Tournament at East Peoria Central Junior High School Saturday.

Stew-Stras took a 14-11 opening quarter lead and led 25-15 at halftime then had a 21-16 second half.

Nothaus and  J. Wittenberg scored 14 points each for the winners while A. Wittenberg chipped in with 10.

Stew-Stras then fell in the second game, 25-18 to Lovejoy. Lovejoy held a 9-8 opening half lead then had a 16-10 second half.

Nothaus tallied seven to lead Stew-Stras which drops to 23-2 on the season.

In other games, Washington St. Patrick beat Gifford, 40-13, Mazon-Verona-Kinsman beat Lincoln West Lincoln-Broadwell, 40-37 and Lovejoy downed Monmouth ICS, 44-13.

In the semifnials, Washington St. Patrick beat Mazon-Verona-Kinsman, 42-22.

Stew-Stras will play for third place at 6 p.m. Thursday against Mazon-Verona-Kinsman while Washington St. Patrick faces Lovejoy for the championship at 7:30.

Class S State Tournament

Altamont Lutheran captured a win to advance in the SIJHSAA Class S State Tournament at Rend Lake College Saturday.

ALIS handed Pinckneyville a 40-36 loss. ALIS took an 11-8 opening quarter lead but Pinckneyville came back to tie the score at halftime, 18-18. Pinckneyville took a 30-26 lead into the final quarter.  The Rockets then came roaring back with a 14-6 final period to pull out the victory.

Noah Klimpel tallied 1 points while Tyler Robbins added nine for Altamont Lutheran.

In other games, Cisne beat Waltonville 40-29, Steeleville beat Centralia St. Mary's 46-25, Bartelso won over OLMC-Herrin 63-16, Goreville beat New Athens 54-23, Aviston beat Raccoon 41-40 and Carrier Mills beat Cairo 67-54.

The tournament continues tonight with Cisne taking on Steeleville at 3:30, Bartelso against Goreville at 4:45, Aviston meeting Carrier MIlls at 6 and Altamont Lutheran facing Rome at 7:15.

The final four advances to games Thursday. Winners of those games will meet for the championship at 4 p.m. Saturday while losers will square off for third place at 2:30 p.m.

Class 7-2A State Tournament

Effingham St. Anthony saw its season come to a close in the first round of the Class 7-2A State Tournament at Germantown Hills Middle School Saturday.

The Bullpups fell to Bloomington Corpus Christi, 52-29.

Corpus Christi ran off to an 18-4 opening quarter lead and that was the game.

St. Anthony 3 was led by Will Hoene with 11 points and Griffin Sehy with nine. The Bullpups end season play with a 17-7 record.

In other games, Joliet Laraway downed Stronghurst West Central, 39-27; Decatur Robinson easily handled Dwight, 52-24 and Springfield Christ the King beat Peoria St. Vincent de Paul, 38-9.

In the semifinals, Bloomigton Corpus Christi downed Joliet Laraway, 53-36 and Decatur Robertson won over Springfield Christ the King, 54-42.

The third place contest will be played Thursday at 6 p.m. with Joliet Laraway against Springfield Christ The King. The championship is scheduled for 7:30 with Bloomington Corpus Christi against Decatur Robertson.
