Effingham St. Anthony captured the championship of the Class 7-2A Neoga Regional. NEOGA -- Effingham St. Anthony captured the regional championship of the Class 7-2A Neoga Boys Basketball Regional Thursday.

The Bullpups downed Paris Crestwood, 49-17. St. Anthony held a 29-11 halftime lead and led 40-15 going into the final quarter. Griffin Sehy tallied 12 points to lead the Bullpups while Jon Willenborg and Will Hoene were on the verge of double figures with nine each.

St. Anthony (16-6) will now meet South Central at its own sectional Wednesday, January 31 at 6:30 p.m.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City captured the championship of the Class 7-2A Findlay Okaw Valley Boys Basketball Regional Thursday evening.

CHBC easily handled Morrisonville, 33-17. CHBC stepped out to an 8-2 opening quarter lead and led 14-7 at halftime. CHBC had a 9-2 third period to put the contest away.

Kenny Robbins led the way with 14 points while Trevor Thies chipped in with 13. Robbins scored only four points in the first half then came back with a six-point third quarter and a four-point final period.

The Bobcats improve to 12-9 on the season and will now face Decatur Robertson (18-1) at the Assumption Central A&M Sectional Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

The eighth-grade CHBC team was supposed to play in the Assumption Central A&M Regional Saturday against Nokomis but that game has been rescheduled to Monday, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. at Central A&M Middle School due to a tragic death at Nokomis Junior High School.

Class 7-2A South Central  Regional

South Central picked up the championship at its own regional Thursday evening.

South Central beat Altamont, 51-41, and advances to the Effingham St. Anthony Sectional Wednesday, January 31 to face host St. Anthony at 6:30 p.m.

No other information was provided.

 

Class 7-1A Stewardson-Strasburg Regional

Stewardson-Strasburg edged out to a 5-4 lead on Dieterich and still held that one point lead at halftime.

Stew-Stras had a 15-5 second half for the 28-17 win.

A. Wittenberg was the lone player for Stew-Stras in double figures with 12. Britton led Dieterich with 11.

Stew-Stras advances to the Pana Sacred Heart Sectional Wednesday, January 31 where it will face Decatur Our Lady of Lourdes (20-2) at 6:30 p.m.

Class 7-3A Marshall Regional

Teutopolis came out the champion easily at the Marshall Regional Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes ripped off to a 17-2 opening quarter lead and that was the game.

B. Niebrugge scored 15 while Roepke added 10 for the Shoes. T-town improves to 22-2 on the season.

T-town now heads to the Class 7-3A Shelbyville Sectional Wednesday, January 31 to face Macon Meridian (15-8) at 6:30 p.m.

Class 7-3A Marshall Regional
