St. A Advances to NTC Tourney Title Game; Other Thursday Tourney Results

The St. Anthony Bulldogs put on a sparkling performance Thursday to win 75-32 over the Neoga Indians and advance to the championship game of the 83rd Annual National Trail Conference Tournament.

Also Thursday, the CHBC Bobcats defeated the South Central Cougars 62-55 to advance to 6:15pm action Friday against St. Elmo/Brownstown. The winner of that game will move into the consolation championship, while the loser of that game will play North Clay in the 7th place game at 11:30am Saturday. South Central is eliminated from further tournament play.

In the middle game Thursday, Altamont defeated North Clay 55-52 in a dandy game to move into the consolation championship game Saturday against the CHBC/SEB winner Friday night.

ST. ANTHONY 75, NEOGA 32

The Bulldogs were dominant from start to finish, leading 21-7 after one quarter, 40-18 at halftime, and 60-27 after three quarters before outscoring the Indians 15-5 in the final quarter for the 43-point win.

St. Anthony made 28 of 47 shots, just under 60%, including 7 of 14 threes. The Bulldogs made 12 of 16 free throws, grabbed 33 rebounds and only turned the ball over eight times.

Neoga had a tough night shooting the ball, making 12 of 41 shots, 29%, including 2 of 16 threes. The Indians made 6 of 8 foul shots, pulled down just nine rebounds, and turned the ball over 10 times.

Alex Deters led St. Anthony with 18 points on 6 of 8 shooting and 3 of 3 from the line with four rebounds. Alex Beesley scored 14 points on 6 of 7 shooting. Adam Levitt also scored 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting. Also for the Bulldogs: Cade Walsh 9, Jack Nuxoll 6, Brandon Runge 4, Ben Strullmyer 4, Jaccob Dust 3, Luke Ludwig 2, and Wyatt Lawrence 1.

For Neoga: Drew Ramert 7, Jackson Clark 6, Lane Andrews 6, Caleb Hill 5, Trevor Roy 3, Ben Althoff 3, and Reese Johnson 2.

St. Anthony improved to 20-2, while Neoga is back to .500 at 9-9.

Here's ticket information for Bulldogs fans for Saturday night's championship game: Ticket sales will take place in the St. Anthony High School office today from 8:30am to 3pm, and in the St. Anthony High School lobby Saturday from 9am to noon.

C-H-B-C 62, SOUTH CENTRAL 55

The Bobcats beat the Cougars in a good one.

The game was tied 14-14 after one quarter, CHBC led 31-26 at halftime, and were up 44-38 after three quarters. An 18-17 edge in the fourth quarter gave the Bobcats the seven-point win. It was just CHBC's fourth win this season against 14 losses, but they played much better than their record would indicate. CHBC made 64% of its shots, 21 of 33, including 2 of 6 threes. The Bobcats made 18 of 25 foul shots, grabbed 24 rebounds and turned the ball over 17 times.

The Cougars shot 35% from the field, 19 of 54, including 9 of 25 threes. South Central made 8 of 12 foul shots, pulled down 21 rebounds and committed 13 turnovers.

Dylan Webster led CHBC with 23 points on 8 of 10 shooting. Keegan Martin was also in double figures for the Bobcats with 13 points. Three players scored 8 points; Marshall Nohren, Nick Miller and Dylan Taylor; and Trace Smith scored 2 points.

Logan Lotz led South Central in scoring with 21 points. Trent Geiler was also in double figures with 15 points. Also for the South Central: Hunter Brandt 6, Ean Fox 5, Daniel Roberts 4, and Cauy Blomberg and Ryan McCown with 2 apiece.

South Central leaves this year's tournament with an 8-12 record.

ALTAMONT 55, NORTH CLAY 52

This game came down to the wire.

North Clay led the game 13-11 after one quarter, and led 26-25 at halftime, but the Indians moved ahead 39-36 after three quarters and each team scored 16 points in the fourth quarter, making it a three-point final.

After a tough shooting night Tuesday, Altamont hit 51% of its shots, 21 of 41, including 4 of 14 threes. The Indians made 9 of 12 foul shots, grabbed 20 rebounds and turned the ball over 17 times.

North Clay made 41% of its shots, 16 of 39, including 3 of 9 threes. The Cardinals made 14 of 17 free throws, grabbed 29 rebounds, but turned the ball over 28 times.

Mitchell Stevenson and Alek Biggs scored 16 points apiece to lead Altamont. Denver Duckwitz had 8, Noah Teasley 6, Aiden Jahraus 5, and Kaleb Whitt 4.

Quincy Aldrich was leading scorer for the Cardinals with 14 points, while Bryce Holkenbrink and Reese Blank each scored 13 points. Also for North Clay: Aleon Rinehart and Tyson Jones 5 each, and Nick Miller 2.

Altamont improves to 11-9 on the season, while North Clay is now 7-14.

Once again, tonight's lineup at Altamont will feature CHBC and St. Elmo/Brownstown at 6:15pm, followed by Dieterich and Windsor/Stew-Stras with the winner of that game playing St. Anthony Saturday night at 7:30pm for the conference tournament championship.

A reminder, too, that while we are broadcasting from the NTC Tournament on 979XFM, we will have a key girls matchup on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com. The Effingham Lady Hearts will play host to the Teutopolis Lady Shoes. Both teams have won 20 games and both are in the Top 10 in their class.
