PATOKA -- Altamont Lutheran edged Iuka, 34-23 in the SIJHSAA Class S Boys Basketball Regional Wednesday.

Iuka took an 8-5 opening quarter lead but Altamont Lutheran got on the right track with a 13-3 second period to lead 18-11 at halftime. Iuka came back in the third period to tie the score at 20-20. ALIS then pulled it out in the fourth when Quinn Verdeyen connected on two free throws with under 15 seconds left..

Verdeyen finished with 10 points while Noah Klimpel also scored 10.

In the opening game of the evening, Odin edged Patoka 22-20.

Altamont Lutheran will now face top-seeded Odin Friday at 7 p.m. for the regional championship.

Class 7-3A Sullivan Regional

Macon Meridian tallied a 34-31 win over Arthur in the championship game of the Sullivan Regional Wednesday.

Macon Meridian now advances to the Shelbyville Sectional Jan. 31 where it will face either Teutopolis or Casey-Westfield. Those two teams play tonight for the championship of the Marshall Regional.

 

At Newton

Newton St. Thomas picked up two victories over Clay City Wednesday.

St. Thomas won the seventh-grade game, 28-24. Drew Buerster scored nine points for the winners while Gus Bierman had six.

In eighth-grade action, St. Thomas was a 52-26 winner. Mason Schafer had 23 and Jamee Zumbahlen 12 for the winners. Clay City was led by Beck with 19.
