VIDEO: Wooden Shoes Defeat the Hearts; Other Tuesday Night Hoops Scores

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes snapped the Effingham Hearts' five-game winning streak with a 43-36 victory in boys' high school basketball action Tuesday night.  The game at J.H. Griffin Gym was heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.  Watch for a video replay of the game on the website on Wednesday.

The Wooden Shoes scored the first six points of the game before the Hearts scored eight straight to take a two-point lead.  T-Town scored the final three points of the quarter to take a 9-8 lead.  A 7-7 second quarter standoff left the Shoes in front 16-15 at halftime.

Teutopolis again got out of the gate well to start the second half and ended up outscoring Effingham 11-7 in the third quarter to lead 27-22.  The Shoes got the lead up to nine in the final stanza before the Hearts got back to within five before losing by seven as T-Town outpointed EHS 16-14 in the quarter.

The Shoes made 12 of 30 shots for 40%, adding 15 of 21 from the line, committing 13 turnovers and grabbing 22 rebounds while hitting on four of seven three-point tries.

The Hearts made just 14 of 44 shots for 32%, and just one five three-point attempts.  Effingham hit on seven of 10 foul shots, committed 10 turnovers and pulled down 23 rebounds.

Derek Smith scored 10 of Teutopolis' first 11 points and finished with 16 points to lead all scorers.   Also for T-Town: Devin Falbe 9, Rourke Schultz 6, Reed Hardiek 5, Jared Waldhoff 3, and Kyle Pruemer and Brett Mette 2 each.

Hunter Keith led Effingham with 9 points.  Also for the Hearts: Jake Stombaugh 7, Clark Williamson 6, Leighton Lark 5, Phil Knight 4, Josh Stombaugh 3, and Alex Carie 2.

Teutopolis improved to 6-1 on the season while Effingham is now 5-2.

Teutopolis won the JV game 52-39.
