Effingham Junior High School claimed a 52-31 win over Taylorville in seventh-grade boys basketball action Monday.

The Mustangs led 25-16 at halftime and had an 18-8 third quarter. Estrada tallied 12 to lead Effingham while Westendorf added 11, Donaldson and Wolfe had 10 each.

The Mustangs are now 13-2 on the season.

In eighth-grade play, Taylorville downed the Mustangs 52-27.

Taylorville led 25-12 at halftime.

Effingham was led by Pals with eight points.

At Sacred Heart

Altamont Lutheran downed Effingham Sacred Heart in both seventh and eighth grade play Monday evening.

Altamont Lutheran was a 31-25 winner in the seventh-grade contest.

Lutheran trailed the Shamrocks 16-9 at halftime and 19-17 going into the final quarter then had a 14-6 surge to pull out the win.

Cornett and Jahraus had six points each in the final quarter after not scoring in the opening half. Cornett finished as the scoring leader with 12.

Sacred Heart was led by Lohman and McDevitt with eight points each.

In eighth-grade action, Altamont Lutheran was a 40-19 winner. Altamont Lutheran led 20-8 at halftime.

Klimpel had 10 points to lead the winners while Cornett added nine.

Sacred Heart was led by Feldhake with eight.

At Charleston

Teutopolis split wins with Charleston on the road Monday evening.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade game 37-22. T-town had a 10-3 opening quarter and a 16-6 third period.

B. Niebrugge led the way with 11 points while Ca. Siemer added nine.

In the eighth-grade contest, Charleston edged the Shoes 34-32. Charleston took a big 17-6 opening half lead. T-town came back with a 26-17 second half only to fall short.

K. Althoff led the way for the Shoes with 15 while Bannick chipped in with nine.

Stewardson-Strasburg claimed two wins over Dieterich in action Monday.

Stew-Stras was a 29-18 winner in the seventh-grade game to improve to 18-1 and 10-0 in the National Trail Conference.

J. Wittenberg led in scoring with 13 points while A. Wittenberg added 10. Britton led Dieterich with nine.

In the eighth-grade contest, Stew-Stras was a 46-39 winner and improved to 4-6 in the conference, 5-12 overall.

Wernsing led Stew-Stras with 21 points. Lidy tallied 15 and B. Budde 13 for Dieterich.

Newton St. Thomas handed Sigel St. Michael a 27-17 loss. Dylan Gier led St. Thomas with nine points.

In the eighth-grade game, Sigel St. Michael was a 55-30 winner. St. Thomas was led by Mason Schafer and Kye Bergbower with nine each.
