Indians Claim Cage Victory, Girls Roundup

WOODLAWN -- Altamont High School pounded host Woodlawn 51-28 in girls basketball competition Saturday.
The Indians ran off to a 17-1 opening quarter lead behind Mary Guse's two trifectas. Guse continued her hot scoring from the three-point line with three more in the second quarter as the Indians led 30-10 at halftime.
Guse fnished with 19 points to lead the Indians while Leah Mayhaus chipped in with 12.
Altamont's junior varsity squad also nabbed a 46-28 victory.

At Flora
Flora hosted Effingham St. Anthony and sent the Bulldogs home with a 52-48 loss in action Saturday.
The Wolves took an 18-12 opening quarter lead But St. Anthony came back strong in the second period to lead 22-20 at halftime. The score was tied at 35-35 going into the final quarter and 43-43 sending the game into overtime. In the overtime period, Flora had an 8-5 run to pull out the victory.
St. Anthoy's Olivia Clausius led in scoring with 19 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, had two blocked shots and took two charges. Shea Kinkelaar finished with eight points, seven rebounds and four assists.
"We have been talking about stringing good games together and I thought we did that finally even though this was an OT loss," said St. Anthony Coach Bart Wiedman. "We played today without our leading scorer Clare mcHugh and played real well.
"Olivia was amzzing on both ends. Sydney Lorton played great defense on Gibson and Reese Jones played great minutes in Clare's absence."
Flora won the junior varsity contest 34-17.

Sullivan picked up a Saturday victory over Neoga 51-25.
Sullivan took a 29-10 halftime lead and the game was over.
Blair Banning and Mary Hill led Neoga with six points each. The Indians drop to 9-10 on the season.

At Teutopolis
Teutopolis High School played host to Breese Central and was honored by the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Saturday.
The IBCA presented a plaque for T-town having 1,000 victories during the years they've had girls basketball.
But, the Wooden Shoes didn't add on to their victory total by dropping a one-point 48-47 decision to Breese Central.
T-town held a 10-5 opening quarter lead but Breese Central came back to lead 23-17 at halftime and 32-28 going into the final quarter. The Shoes made a comeback bid with a 19-16 final period only to fall a point shot.
Macy Michels tallied 17 points for the Shoes while Mariana Hemmen added nine.
