Effingham St. Anthony split wins with Shelbyville in junior high boys basketball Thursday evening.

The Bullpups were winners in seventh-grade play 43-25. St. Anthony held a 24-10 halftime lead and led by 20 going into the final quarter.

Max Sager tallied 11 while Jon Willenborg had nine, Griffin Sehy eight and Eli Levitt eight.

In eighth-grade action, Shelbyville pulled out a 41-36 overtime win over the Bullpups.

St. Anthony trailed Shelbyville 16-10 at halftime but came back in the third quarter with a 15-7 run to lead 25-23. Shelbyville then had a 9-7 final period to tie the score at 32-32, sending the game into overtime.

In the overtime period, Shelbyville knocked in a three-pointer and hit six of eight free throws for the win.

Stewart and Chojnicki tallied 12 points each for the Bullpups.

At Atlamont

Effingham beat Altamont twice but the final scores were the same, only in different sequence.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade game 42-39 while taking the eighth-grade contest 49-32.

Effingham was led by Wolfe with 15 points in the seventh-grade game while Altamont was led by Kollmann with 22.

In eighth-grade action, Max Hardiek tallied 13 while Jett Volpi scored 12 for the Mustangs. Hardiek pulled down nine rebounds and had four steals. Gabe Eaton had five boards.

Altamont was led by Reardon with 12 points.

 At Dieterich

Dieterich was a winner in both games over Effingham Sacred Heart Thursday.

Dieterich downed the Shamrocks 40-24 in seventh-grade play. Dieterich held a 12-5 halftime lead and had a 26-19 second half.

The winners were led by Kidd with 12 and Niebrugge with 11. Sacred Heart was led by McDevitt with 12.

In eighth-grade action, Dieterich led 27-20 at halftime then had a slight 14-13 edge in the second half for a 41-33 win.

B. Budde scored 20 points while Lidy tallied 11 for the winners. The Shamrocks were led by Zerrusen with 15.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis edged Stewardson-Strasburg twice in action Thursday evening.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade game 31-29 to hand Stew-Stras its first loss of the season. Stew-Stras led 15-14 at halftime and 19-17 going into the final quarter. T-town then had a 14-8 run to pull out the win.

B. Niebrugge led the Shoes with 12 points. A. Wittenberg led Stew-Stras with 16. The Stars drop to 17-1.

In eighth-grade competition, T-town was a 39-35 winner. The Shoes led 21-11 at halftime. Stew-Stras came back with a 24-18 second half run but couldn't get over the hump.

Dylan Pruemer and Derek Konkel scored eight points each for the winners. Wernsing led Stew-Stras with 14. The Stars are 4-12 on the season.

Cumberland came calling and took a 32-26 win over Jasper County in the seventh-grade contest.

Jasper County held a 6-5 opening quarter lead but Cumberland led 16-8 at halftime and never looked back.

Mahaffey led Jasper County (5-11) with nine points. Cumberland was led by Boldt with 16.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County picked up a 45-32 win to improve to 9-7.

Jasper County took a quick 14-4 lead. The winners had only four players score but all four were in double figures. Tharp and Meinhart had 12 each while Schafer added 11 and Koebele 10.

Martinez tallied 15 points for Cumberland.

At Neoga

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City beat Neoga 42-12 in the seventh-grade matchup Thursday evening.

CHBC led 24-7 at halftime. Trevor Thies scored 16 for the winners. Neoga was led by Reynolds with five.

In eighth-grade competition, Neoga was a 35-20 winner. The homestanders led 18-5 at halftime and never looked back.

Pace McClure led the winners with 18 points, hitting six field goals that included three trifectas and was three of four at the line. CHBC was led by Daniel Lucas with nine.
