Newton Wins 2017 Dieterich Boys Tournament

The Newton Eagles continue working to make Coach Doug Mammoser's farewell season memorable.

The Eagles defeated the host Dieterich Movin Maroons Thursday 66-49 to capture the Dieterich Boys Christmas Tournament.

Also Thursday, Oblong defeated CHBC 54-42 in the seventh place game, Christ Our Rock Lutheran nipped North Clay 52-51 in the fifth place contest, and Okaw Valley downed Arcola 55-40 in the third place game.

Newton led 17-13 after one quarter in the championship game, 28-17 at halftime, and 47-34 after three quarters. Newton outpointed 19-15 in the final quarter to post the 17-point win.

Nicholas Cohorst scored 31 points to lead Newton to the win. Collin Harris added 14 points.

Callaway Campton led Dieterich with 21 points, while Ryan Radloff added 16 points.

In the loss to Oblong, Webster and Miller each scored to lead CHBC.

In the one-point loss to Christ Our Rock, Quincy Aldrich scored 17 points to pace North Clay with Tyson Jones adding 11.

The Dieterich Boys All-Tournament Team includes MVP Ryan Radloff of Dieterich, along with Tyson Jones of North Clay, Myles Roberts of Arcola, Tyler Higgs of Dieterich, Aleon Rinehart of North Clay, Jared Bunfill of Okaw Valley, Jack Chapman of Newton, Kacey Cheek of Oblong, Callaway Campton of Dieterich and Nick Cohorst of Newton.
