Effingham Girls Claim Two Victories at Charleston

CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School claimed two more victories at the Charleston Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament Thursday.

The Hearts defeated Springfield Sacred Heart-Griffin 57-40. EHS took a 24-19 halftime lead then had a 16-9 third period.

Carsyn Fearday tallied 14 points, had six rebounds and five assists for EHS while Miranda Fox had 12 points, six rebounds and four asssits. Natalie Carie had four rebounds and three steals. Skyler Schafer had five boards.

EHS then downed Champaign Centennial 61-23. EHS took charge early with a 14-4 opening quarter lead and led 32-7 at halftime.

Three players hit double figures. Aly Armstrong led the way with 14 points while Fearday added 13 and Abby Weis 11. Fearday had six rebounds and four assists while Fox had three boards and six assists. Weis added three rebounds and three assists.

EHS is now 13-0 on the season and returns to action Friday in the opening game at 9 a.m. against Danville.
