Dieterich Girls Tournament Underway With Six Games

DIETERICH -- The Dieterich Holiday Girls Basketball Tournament got underway with six games Tuesday evening.

In the opener, Brownstown/St. Elmo downed South Central 66-22. BSE stepped out to a 35-13 halftime lead then had a 25-3 third period.

Claire Wilhour tallied 18 for the winners while Olivia Cmpabell added 17 and Deana Shelton 10.

South Central was led by Katlyn Hilmes with 14.

Dieterich then handed Arcola 49-41 loss. The Movin' Maroons held a 33-14 halftime lead. Arcola came back with a 17-9 third quarter and 10-7 final period but fell short.

Anna Shadle tallied 16 for the winners while Jennifer Robards added 10.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City downed South Central 41-25. It was a slow scoring opening quarter as CHBC edged out to a 7-6 lead. The Bobcats then had a 19-0 second period and never looked back.

No one scored in double figures in the contest but nine players tallied points for CHBC. Jaelyn Robertson and Kylee Bertin scored eight each. South Central was led by Sydnee Garrett with eight.

Newton then claimed a 57-28 win over Arcola.

The Eagles took a 30-19 halftime lead and otuscored Arcola 27-9 in the second half.

Abby Frohning scored 28 connecting on 12 field goals and was four of six at the line. The Eagles have now won six straight games and are 8-5 on the season.

North Clay (Louisville) picked up a 53-26 win over CHBC. The Cardinals had the one-two scoring punch of Cassidy Coble with 17 and Madison Lovett with 16.

CHBC was led by Robertson with nine points and Tabitha Endsley with eight.

Casey-Westfield ended the opening day with a 64-32 win over host Dieterich.

Myriah Warner connected on 11 field goals and was seven of seven at the line for 29 points for the Warriors. Mackenzie Morgan scored 20 points.

Dieterich was led by Kaitlyn Bloemer with eight.

The tournament continues today as North Clay meets South Central at 10 a.m. followed by Casey-Westfield against Arcola at 11:30, Brownstown/St. Elmo taking on North Clay at 1 p.m., Newton agianst Casey-Westfield at 2:30, CHBC taking on BSE at 4 and Dieterich finishing out the day against  Newton at 5:30.
