S. Central, WSS Claim Girls Basketball Wins

MULBERRY GROVE -- South Central High School tallied a 35-22 girls basketball victory over Mulberry Grove Monday evening.

The Cougars ran off to a 12-2 opening quarter lead as Katlyn Hilmes knocked in two three-pointers and Kayli Swift hit a basket and two free throws. Sydnee Garrett scored the other basket.

Mulberry Grove came back to pull within 14-7 at halftime but the Cougars came back in the third period to push their lead to 21-11 on the strength of Hilmes' three baskets.

Hilmes finished with 12 points to lead the Cougars while Swift added nine and Garrett eight.

South Central improves to 2-8 on the season.

Shelbyville took the early lead, going out to a 13-7 opening quarter but Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg came roaring back and tallied a 54-24 victory Monday evening.

WSS held a 24-17 halftime lead and led 39-22 going into the final quarter.

Four players hit double digits for the Hatchets. Nikki Trussell, a 5-foot-8 junior, led the way with 15 points followed by Hannah Hayes with 12, Megan Schlechte with 11 and Katrina Davis with 10.

Neoga fell in a non-conference contest to Tri-County 70-38 in action Monday.

Tri-County held a 22-10 opening quarter lead and led 44-23 at halftime.

Jessica Atwell, a 5-foot-3 senior, was the lone Neoga player in double figures with 16. Atwell connected on three three-pointers.

Neoga drops to 8-6 on the season.
