Bulldogs Bounce Newton, 67-39

Effingham St. Anthony High School bounced Newton to the tune of 67-39 in a non-conference boys basketball contest Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs tallied an 11-4 opening quarter lead as Brandon Runge scored five points and three other players scored. That lead went to 24-14 at halftime when Alex Deters knocked in two three-pointers in the second period.

St. Anthony then went on a 27-11 scoring binge in the third period when Deters tallied 10 points.

Three players finished in double figures for the Bulldogs. Deters scored 22 points, hitting seven field goals that included three trifectas and five of 12 at the line. Cade Walsh and Jack Nuxoll contributed 10 points each.

Newton was led by Ben Carr and Nicholas Cohorst with eight points each.

St. Anthony was a winner in the junior varsity contest, 62-35.
