Effingham St. Anthony and Stewardson-Strasburg picked up a victory each in boys junior high basketball action Monday evening.

Stew-Stras won the seventh-grade contest 32-24. Stew-Stras led 15-11 at halftime then had a 10-4 third quarter run.

Davis tallied 11 while A. Wittenberg added 10 for the winners. St. Anthony was led by Hoene with eight.

Stew-Stras improves to 15-0.

In the eighth-grade game, St. Anthony was a 37-28 winner. The Bullpups held a 16-8 halftime lead then had a 13-9 third quarter run.

Mendella tallied 12 for the winners. Stew-Stras was led by Beals with 12.

At Newton

Newton St. Thomas picked up two wins over Effingham Sacred Heart Monday evening.

In the seventh-grade game, St. Thomas edged the Shamrocks 24-23. Sacred Heart held a 7-4 opening quarter lead and led 11-6 at halftime. St. Thomas came back with a 15-4 third quarter run to lead 21-15 going into the final period. The Shamrocks then roared back only to fall a point short.

St. Thomas was led by Bierman and L. Weber with six points each. Sacred Heart was led by McDevitt with eight.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Thomas downed the Shamrocks 39-31.

St. Thomas held a 19-17 halftime lead and led 29-21 going into the final quarter.

Mason Schafer tallied 15 and Kye Bergbower 14 for the winners. Sacred Heart was led by Feldhake with 12.

At Newton

Jasper County handed Martinsville a seventh-grade loss, 37-35.

Jasper County led 19-17 at halftime. Martinsville came back to lead 26-23 going into the final quarter. Jasper County then had a 14-9 final period to pull out the victory.

Mahaffey led with 12 points while Reynolds tallied 11 for the winners who improved to 4-10.

In eighth-grade action, Jasper County was a 37-23 winner. Jasper County took the early lead 16-4 after the opening quarter.

Tharp tallied eight while Schafer also had eight for the winners who improve to 7-7.

At Casey

Teutopolis picked up two victories over Casey-Westfield Monday.

The Wooden Shoes won the seventh-grade encounter, 49-10. T-town held a 27-6 halftime lead. Roepke and Siemer tallied 10 points each for the Shoes.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town took a 20-13 halftime lead then had a 19-12 second half for a 39-25 victory over Casey-Westfield.

Bannick led the way for the Shoes with 16 while Bushur added 10.

Altamont Lutheran captured two wins over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Monday evening.

Altamont Lutheran claimed the seventh-grade contest 23-15. Lutheran edged out to a 12-9 opening half then had an 11-2 third quarter.

Logan Cornett tallied eight for the winners. CHBC was led by Hayden Corley with six.

In eighth-grade action, ALIS was a 37-29 winner. CHBC took a 10-8 opening quarter lead but ALIS came back to lead 21-14 at halftime. Lutheran then had a 16-15 second half lead.

Noah Klimpel tallied nine for the winners while Cornett and Quinn Verdeyen had eight each. CHBC was led by Jason Baylis with 10.
