Effingham Junior High School split victories with Champaign Edison in boys basketball action Saturday.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade encounter 50-16. EJHS had a 24-9 opening half and never looked back.

Wolfe tallied nine for the Mustangs who improve to 10-2 on the season.

In the eighth-grade contest, Champaign Edison was a 33-25 winner. The Mustangs held a 13-9 halftime lead but Edison came roaring back with an 18-8 third quarter.

Pals scored 10 for the Mustangs.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony picked up two wins over visiting Marshall Saturday.

The Bullpups improved to 10-3 on the season with a 34-29 win in seventh-grade action. St. Anthony trailed Marshall 9-8 after the opening quarter but took a 19-10 halftime lead.

Griffin Sehy scored 15 for the winners.

In the eighth-grade game, St. Anthony won 48-22. The Bullpups held an 18-12 opening half lead before running off a 14-3 third period and a 16-7 final quarter.

J. Blanchette and B. Niebrugge scored 12 points each for the Bullpups while Mendella tallied 11.

At Vandalia

Altamont Lutheran finished second at the Vandalia Seventh-Grade Round Robin Tournament Saturday.

ALIS lost the opening game to Vandalia 44-35 then defeated Bethalto Triumpe's B team 42-20.

Vandalia finished 2-0 followed by Altamont Lutheran 1-1, Bethalto Trimpe B team 0-2.

Against Vandalia, ALIS led 10-6 after the opening quarter and 19-16 at halftime. ALIS still held a 30-29 lead going into the final quarter. Vandalia then came back with a 14-6 run to pull out the victory.

ALIS was led by Logan Cornett with 13 points, Nathan Shepard with 12 and Mason Robinson with 10.

In the second contest, ALIS zipped out to a 20-8 halftime lead and the game was over.

Cornett led the way with 16 points while Avery Jahraus and N. Shepard scored nine each.
