WSS Nabs Girls Basketball Win; Wayne City Boys Tourney Results

CERRO GORDO -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg handed Cerro Gordo/Bement a 55-45 loss in girls basketball competition Saturday.

The Hatchets stepped out to a 17-6 opening quarter lead and led 29-19 at halftime. CGB came back with a 10-5 third period run to pull within 34-29 going into the final quarter but  WSS had a 21-16 run.

Megan Schlechte, a 5-foot-11 junior, led the way for the winners with 16 points while Nikki Trussell, a 5-foot-8 junior, scored 14.

Wayne City Tournament

The Wayne City Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament opened play Saturday.

Webber Township (Bluford) downed Cisne 44-33 in the opener. Gallatin County then defeated North Clay (Louisville) 60-48.

Red Hill (Bridgeport) beat Crab Orchard 72-40 and Wayne City bounced Grayville 80-38.

The tournament continues tonight as Crab Orchard faces Grayville at 5:30 followed by Cisne against Gallatin County at 7 and North Clay taking on Webber Township at 8:30.
