CHBC Seventh-Graders Third at State, T-town Fourth

Members of the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City seventh-graders who finished third in the Class 7-2A State Basketball Tournament. PARIS -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City captured third place at the Class 7-2A Girls State Basketball Tournament Thursday at Paris High School.

CHBC took a 10-4 opening quarter lead on Winchester and led 12-9 at halftime. Both teams tallied five points in the third period and both had 10 points in the final period.

Gracie Heckert scored 12 for the Bobcats while Mady Wojcik added 11.

Leading Winchester was Bryleigh Fox with 18.

CHBC ended the season with a 24-5 record.

Paris Crestwood won the state title by downing Elmwood, 41-18.

Class 7-3A State Tournament

Teutopolis finished fourth in the Class 7-3A State Tournament at Auburn High School Thursday.

The Wooden Shoes fell to Quincy St. Peter 44-31. St. Peter took a 13-9 opening quarter lead and held that four-point lead at halftime 23-19. St. Peter came out after the half with a 14-6 run and had the game under control.

T-town was led by Emily Konkel with 10 points and Alaina Helmink with eight. The Wooden Shoes finished 20-6 on the season.

Abbey Schreacke led Quincy St. Peter with 22 points.

Winning the championship was Havana over Germantown Hills 31-29.
