Bulldogs Pick Up Win Over CHBC

Effingham St. Anthony put together a 55-42 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in girls National Trail Conference basketball action at the Enlow Center Wednesday evening, 55-42.

The Bulldogs edged out to a 7-6 opening quarter lead but then broke loose with a 16-7 second period run.  Meg Richards put in three baskets while Sydney Gibson connected on four free throws and Olivia Clausis hit a bucket and two free throws.

The St. Anthony barrage continued in the third quarter with an 18-9 third period. CHBC came back in the final quarter with a 20-14 run.

Richards finished with 20 points connecting on eight field goals and four of five at the line. Clausius tallied 13 while Gibson was at nine. Clausius had four assists while McGuire pulled down six rebounds.

"Real nice offensive game by everyone tonight," said St. Anthony Coach Bart Wiedman. "Meg, Liv and Syd set the tone inside and Mary and Keri did a great job getting them the ball in position to score."

The Bulldogs are now 2-1 in the National Trail Conference and 4-6 overall.

CHBC was led by Jaelyn Robertson with 10 points. The Bobcats are now 2-1 in the conference, 6-3 overall.

St. Anthony was a winner in the junior varsity contest 39-25.
