CHBC, T-town To Play For Third Place at Seventh-Grade State Tourneys

PARIS -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City will be playing for third place after competing in the Class 7-2A State Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

CHBC claimed a first round victory over Roanoke-Benson 40-25.  CHBc took a 20-5 halftime lead then played Ronaoke-Benson even in the second half.

Mady Wojcik tallied 14 and Gracie Heckert 13 for the winners.

In the second game, Elmwood edged CHBC 27-24. CHBC took a 6-0 first quarter lead and led 14-9 at halftime. CHBC still held a five point lead going into the final quarter but Elmwood mounted a rally with a 14-6 run to pull out the victory.

Iin the other games, Paris Crestwood downed Carthage 26-21, Winchester wn over Blomoington Corpus Christi 34-11 and Elmwood downed Lockport  Kelvin Grove 39-12. In the semifinals, Paris Crestwood beat Winchester 41-16.

Winchester and CHBC will meet for third place at 6 p.m. Thursday while Paris Crestwood takes on Elmwood at 7:30 for the championship.

Class 7-3A State Tournament

Teutopolis competed in the Class 3A State Tournament against Forrest Prairie Central Saturday and picked up a 22-19 victory.

Forrest Prairie Central ran off to a 7-0 first quarter lead and led 9-2 at halftime.  T-town mounted a comeback starting in the third quarter pulling within 10-6 then had an 8-4 fourth period run to tie the score at 14-14, sending the game into overtime. In the overtime period, the Shoes outscored Forrest Prairie 8-5 to pull out the win.

Emily Konkel tallied 14 to lead the Shoes.

In the semifinals, T-town fell to Havana 38-35. The Shoes traile3d Havana 17-15 at hafltime. Havana came back with a 13-8 run then had to hold off a final quarter challenge.

Konkel tallied 20 for the winners. The Shoes are now 20-5 on the season.

In other games, Havana downed Tolono Unity 42-12, Quincy St. Peter troucned  Sanadwich 48-9 and Germantown Hill defeated Pana 48-12. In the other semifinal contest, Germantown Hills beat Quincy St. Peter 47-30.

T-town will face  Quincy St. Peter at 6 p.m. Thursday for othird place while Havana takes on Germantown HIlls at 7:30 for the state championship.
