DECATUR -- Altamont Lutheran finished second at the Decatur St. Theresa Boys Basketball Tournament Tuesday.

The first quarter was the killer as Odin stepped out to a 10-1 lead and led 14-13 at halftime. Altamont Lutheran took a 10-6 third period run to lead 23-21 going into the final quarter. However, Odin came back with a 7-4 lead to pull out the 28-27 victory.

Altamont Lutheran had one player in double figures, Noah Klimpel with 11. Klimpel and Quinn Verdeyen were named to the All-Tournament First Team.

At Mattoon

Effingham Junior High picked up two B boys basketball victories over Mattoon in action Tuesday evening.

In the seventh-grade B contest, EJHS was a 33-24 winner. The Mustangs took a 16-15 halftime lead then had a 17-9 second half run. Rinkel led the way with six points.

In the B eighth-grade game, Effingham claimed a 37-29 win. The Mustangs led 20-11 at halftime. Hardiek scored 13 for the winners.

At Sacred Heart

Effingham Sacred Heart beat Windsor by a whopping 53-19 margin in seventh-grade action Tuesday evening.

The Shamrocks held a 21-8 halftime lead and had a 24-11 third quarter run. Tegeler tallied 16 for the winners while Lohman and McDevitt had nine each.

In eighth-grade action, Windsor picked up a 36-27 victory.

Windsor held a slight 14-13 halftime lead then had a 22-14 second half run. Windsor was led by Colclasure with 20 points.

Sacred Heart was led by Zerrusen with 14.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis claimed two victories over Robinson in action Tuesday.

In the seventh-grade game, the Wooden Shoes claimed a 54-23 victory. T-town zipped off to a 27-2 halftime lead. Caleb Siemer led 11 players in scoring. Siemer had eight and Brendan Niebrugge tallied seven.

In the eighth-grade game, T-town won 51-14. The Shoes led 38-8 at halftime. Kaleb Bannick scored 19 for the winners while Sam Bushur added 12.

At Sigel

Jasper County and Sigel St. Michael split wins Tuesday evening.

Jasper County was a 31-15 winner in seventh-grade action. Jasper County led 13-6 at halftime and had a 12-5 third quarter.

Reynolds tallied 11 points while Jansen added eight for the winners. St. Michael was led by Niebrugge with 13.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Michael picked up a 39-21 win. St. Michael held a three point lead at halftime then had a 19-6 second half run.

St. Michael was led by Croy with 22 and Niebrugge with 11. Jasper County was led by Meinhart with eight points.
