Altamont, Teutopolis Advance To Girls Junior High State Tournaments

Altamont and Teutopolis advanced to girls junior high state basketball tournaments with victories Wednesday evening while St. Anthony saw its season come to a close.

Class 8-1A St. Anthony Sectional

Maryville Christian claimed the championship of the 8-1A St. Anthony Sectional by beating the host Bullpups.

Maryville Christian claimed the win 33-26 to improve to 17-3 and advance to the state tournament at Clinton Junior High School Saturday against Springfield Little Flower at 1 p.m.

Altamont captured the Class 8-2A Paris Crestwood Sectional and advances to state.

Class 8-2A Paris Crestwood Sectional

Altamont was crowned the champion of the 8-2A Paris Crestwood Sectional Wednesday evening.

Altamont defeated host Paris Crestwood 37-29 to improve to 19-4 on the season. Altamont trailed Crestwood 9-6 after the opening quarter but came back to lead 19-13 at halftime. Crestwood pulled within 21-19 going into the final quarter when Altamont made a 16-10 run.

Brooke Burns scored 15 while Keidron Duckwitz tallied 11 and Elizabeth Biggs 10 for the winners.

Altamont advances to the 8-2A State Tournament and will face Bloomington Holy Trinity (24-1) at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Teutopolis Junior High School won the 8-3A Cumberland Sectional and advances to state. Class 8-3A Cumberland Sectional

Teutopolis improved its record to 24-1 with a 37-21 victory over Lawrenceville Parkview to win the 8-3A Cumberland Sectional Wednesday.

T-town edged out to a 10-8 opening quarter lead then put on the scoring in the second period to pull ahead 21-11 at halftime. Raegan Drees tallied 12 and Jamie Sandschafer nine for the winners.

T-town advances to the 3A State Tournament at Warrensburg-Latham High School Saturday against Auburn (19-3) at 1 p.m.

8-3A Cumberland Sectional

Class 8-4A Mahomet-Seymour Sectional

Mattoon was a 34-31 winner over host Mahomet-Seymour to earn the championship of the 8-4A Mahomet-Seymour Sectional.

Mattoon advances to the state tournament at Rochester Junior High School and will face Normal Kingsley at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
