Sigel St. Michael captured the championship of the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

St. Michael downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 35-16 for the title. The Sharpshooters took a 4-0 first quarter lead and led 18-7 at halftime. St. Michael kept control in the second half with a 17-9 run.

Schumacher tallied 15 for the winners while Fearday scored eight.

CHBC was led by Duckwitz and Wojcik with eight each.

In the third place contest, South Central downed Dieterich 38-27. Dieterich held a 20-18 first half lead but South Central had a 20-7 second half run.

Webster scored 10 while Smith had eight for the winners. Meinhart led Dieterich with nine.

In the consolation championship, Altamont tallied a 35-22 win over Brownstown/St. Elmo.

Altamont led 22-10 at halftime. Two players hit double digits for the winners as Walker scored 12 and McManaway tallied 11.

BSE was led by Griggs and Wilhour with seven each.

In Friday play, Altamont moved into the consolation championship with a 23-15 win over North Clay (Louisville). McManaway scored 14 for the winners. North Clay was led by Conley with three.

In the other consy contest, BSE won over Neoga 28-20. BSE was led by Wilhour with 12. Neoga was led by Dunn with nine.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City claimed second place in the NTC Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tourney.

 

At Robinson

In Friday contests, Jasper County fell to Robinson Nuttall twice.

In the seventh-grade game, Robinson Nuttall was a 23-17 winner. Emma Oldham led Jasper County with six points and 11 rebounds.

In eighth-grade action, Robinson Nuttall won 26-22. Amber Russell led Jasper County with 14.
