BEECHER CITY -- Three games were contested in the Eighth-Grade Girls National Trail Conference Basketball Tournament Tuesday evening.

In the opener, North Clay (Louisville) handed Effingham Sacred Heart a loss, 31-24.

The Shamrocks took the early lead 10-2 and led 16-8 at halftime. North Clay held Sacred Heart scoreless in the third period and moved ahead 19-16 then had a 12-8 final quarter.

Allen and Conley had eight points each for the winners. Leading Sacred Heart was Karolewicz with 16.

In the second game, Neoga defeated Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor 33-19. Neoga held a 21-11 halftime lead and never looked back. Moore tallied 11 while Gresens and Dunn had eight each.

SSW was led by Hayes with nine points.

In the final contest of the evening, South Central edged Altamont 33-30.

South Central led 10-9 at halftime and 23-22 going into the final quarter. South Central then had a 10-8 final period run,.

Webster and Smith had 11 points each for the winners. McManaway led Altamont with 18.

The tournament continues tonight with Sigel St. Michael facing North Clay at 5:30, Dieterich taking on Neoga at 6:45 and Brownstown/St. Elmo against Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 8.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony played host to Flora and split victories Tuesday evening.

The Bullpups won the eighth-grade contest 31-8. St. Anthony stepped out to a 13-2 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Guy tallied 14 for the Bullpups.

In the seventh-grade game, Flora was a 17-6 winner. Faber tallied four for St. Anthony.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis split wins with Olney in action Tuesday evening.

In the seventh-grade game, T-town was a 37-2 winner. The Wooden Shoes led 22-0 at halftime. Emily Konkel led the way in scoring with 16 points. T-town is now 10-2.

In eighth-grade action, Olney claimed a 39-35 victory. Olney took an 8-2 opening quarter lead and held on for the victory.

T-town was led by Izzy Hardiek with 14 points as the Shoes drop to 10-2.
