Dieterich, Neoga Wins in NTC; Effingham Claims Two

STRASBURG -- Dieterich and Neoga picked up victories in the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

Dieterich bounced Effingham Sacred Heart 57-17. Dieterich stepped out to a 21-0 first quarter lead and had a 19-4 third period run. Radloff led the winners with 17 points. Sacred Heart was led by Sherrod with eight.

In the second game, Neoga edged Windsor 28-25. Neoga took an 8-5 opening quarter lead and led by the same three-point margin at halftime, 14-11. Neoga then had a 12-7 third period run and had to hold off Windsor in the final quarter.

Krampe tallied seven for Neoga as seven players scored in the contest. Armes led Windsor with 14.

At Effingham

The Centralia seventh-grade team controlled the first half and had a 15-9 lead, however Effingham outscored Centralia 11-2 in the third quarter and finished out with a 28-22 victory.

Adam Levitt led the Mustangs with eight points and eight rebounds. Mason Hull chipped in with seven points and five boards. Effingham is now 6-4 and back in action Monday at Jasper County.

In eighth-grade action, it was raining three-pointers as Effingham hit seven of nine and Centralia was nine of 11. Effingham was a 74-64 winner over Centralia. The Mustangs trailed 22-14 after the opening period but rallied with a 26-16 run to move ahead 40-38 at halftime. The Mustangs then went on a 23-9 tear.

Jacob Donaldson led Effingham with 24 points while Brent Beals added 18 and Grant Wolfe 16. Beals and Wolfe had four steals each while Lane Koenig pulled down five rebounds. Wolfe and Trevor Kreke had three assists each. The Mustangs improve to 9-1.

Effingham is back in action Monday at Newton against Jasper County at 6 p.m.
