Mattoon Beats St. A in Girls F/S Play; Bulldogs Split Boys Games

Mattoon came calling and handed Effingham St. Anthony a girls basketball loss in freshman/sophomore action Monday, 30-25.

Mattoon took a 17-10 first half lead then had a 9-4 third period run. St. Anthony came back with an 11-4 final quarter run but fell short.

Blake Raboin and Zoe Taylor led the winners with six points each. St. Anthony was led by Andrea Doedtman with six points.

BOYS FRESHMEN/SOPHOMORE

In boys freshman action, St. Anthony beat Charleston 52-45 in the A contest but fell in B play 34-33.

In the A contest, St. Anthony held a 32-29 halftime lead then held that same three point lead after three quarters. Grunloh tallied 14, Jay Niebrugge 11 and Martelli 10 for the winners. Bell led Charleston with 19.

In the B game, Charleston edged the Bulldogs 34-33. Charleston took a 7-4 opening quarter lead and led 21-8 at halftime. St. Anthony came roaring back in the third period to pull within 26-19 and outscored Charleston 12-8 in the final period but fell short.

Sears tallied 15 for St. Anthony. Charleston was led by Woods with 11.

At Altamont

In a boys freshman game, Altamont defeated Neoga 53-33. For Altamont, Klaiton Wolff had 17 points and 11 rebounds, Nick Miller had 11 points, Adam Mayhaus had 9 points and Brandon Hosick had 8 points.
 
In the sophomore game, Altamont beat Neoga, 61-38. For Altamont, Shawn Drone had 21 points, Landon Oder had 11 points and Thomas Caravello had 9 points.
