Ron Reed Resigns as Hearts Boys Basketball Coach

Ron Reed has submitted his resignation as the boys varsity basketball coach of the Effingham Flaming Hearts.

Reed submitted a letter of resignation this week to Unit 40 Activity Director David Woltman. In an interview Wednesday afternoon, Reed said he just feels the time is right and said the move will allow him more time with his family. He will remain as a teacher at EHS.

In Reed's 15 seasons at Effingham, the Hearts have gone 268-154. Effingham has won 20 or more games in each of the past five seasons and has won the Apollo Conference championship in each of the past five seasons, going 10-0 this past season. Effingham finished 25-5 this season.

Reed's career began at Louisville (North Clay). He went to Harrisburg, then returned to North Clay before coaching at Lawrenceville before taking the Effingham job in 2002, succeeding Jim Corrona. Under Reed's tenure, Effingham had eight seasons of 20 or more victories, as well as three regional championships.
