Effingham Girls Advance To Championship Game of Taylorville Regional

TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham High School advanced to the championship game of the Class 3A Taylorville Girls Basketball Regional with a 57-48 win over Springfield Southeast Wednesday evening.

The Hearts edged out to a 10-9 opening quarter lead and held that one point margin at halftime 21-20.

EHS came out in the third quarter with a 20-16 run to move into the final quarter ahead 41-36. EHS then maintained control with a 16-12 final period.

Carsyn Fearday tallied 16 points for the Hearts while three players were on the verge of double figures. Natalie Carie,  Aly Armstrong and Miranda Fox scored nine points each.

The Hearts had 11 turnovers while Southeast had 18.

In the second contest, Lincoln defeated Litchfield by almost the same score as the Hearts, 57-43.

EHS will take a 25-4 record into the championship game Friday at 7 p.m. against Lincoln.
