The Teutopolis High School Shoes and the Newton Eagles will square off for the Newton Class 2A Girls Basketball Sectional Championship Thursday night after each posted a semifinal win in Monday night action.

The Shoes overcame a slow start to defeat the Tuscola Warriors 53-42 in a game heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com, while Newton came from seven points down to edge the Marshall Lions 43-41.

Teutopolis will take on Newton Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will air on KJ Country.

Tuscola was a handful in the first quarter, moving ahead of Teutopolis by five points on a couple of occasions before the Shoes came back to forge a 13-13 tie at the end of the period.

It was a different story in the second quarter, as Teutopolis outscored Tuscola 14-3 to take a 27-16 halftime lead. The Shoes posted a 14-7 third quarter to lead 41-23.

Teutopolis moved ahead by as many as 21 points before Tuscola put on a large rally to get within nine points, but the Shoes regrouped to post the 11-point win.

Tuscola closes at 22-6, losing in the sectional for the second straight season to Teutopolis. The Shoes, meanwhile, improved to 27-5 on the season.

Teutopolis will take on a Newton team that trailed by as many as seven points late in a low-scoring game before staging a furious comeback.

Newton called time with :11.5 left, and Frohning scored again with :05.1 left to give Newton the win.

The Eagles were led by Frohning and Grace Hartrich with 16 points each. Frohning had a double-double with the 16 points and 11 rebounds. She also added three assists. Hartrich had five boards and five assists. Ariel Richards chipped in with two assists.
