St. Anthony Wins Own Championship; T-town, Effingham Split

Effingham St. Anthony hosted a Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament at Goff Gym Saturday.

The Bullpups defeated Ramsey 48-28 after jumping out to a 25-5 halftime lead. Deters tallied 11, Beesley 10 and Nuxoll 10 for the winners.

In the second game, Stewardson-Strasburg downed St. Elmo/Brownstown 30-20. Kramer led Stew-Stras with 10 points. Brown and Maxey led St. Elmo/Brownstown with eight points each.

The third place game went to Ramsey over St. Elmo/Brownstown 40-28.

In the championship game, St. Anthony jumped out to a 12-0 opening quarter lead and tallied a 32-25 win over Stew-Stras. Deters tallied 12 points for the winners. Kramer led Stew-Stras with 13.

At Teutopolis

Effingham and Teutopolis split victories in seventh and eighth-grade play. T-town claimed a 43-34 win in the seventh-grade game. Collin Funneman tallied 21 points for the winners. Hull scored 13 for Effingham.

In the eighth-grade contest, Effingham was a 49-38 winner. Donaldson scored 21 while Wolfe chipped in with 12. Wolfe led in steals with seven. Donaldson led in rebounds with seven while Wolfe had five. T-town was led by Lucas Deters with 13 and Blake Mette with 11.

Jasper County picked up a victory and a loss at Olney. Jasper County edged Lawrenceville 28-25. Tim Weber tallied 11 and Joe Stone 10.

Jasper County fell to Olney 51-33. Nate Meinhart had 10 points and Stone nine.
