OLNEY -- Effingham High School easily handled Olney in non-conference boys basketball competition Tuesday evening, 77-43.

The Hearts held an 18-9 opening quarter lead as Grant Wolfe nailed seven points and Landon Wolfe tallied five.

G. Wolfe then terrorized the Tigers from the three-point line in the second quarter, nailing five straight for 15 points as the Hearts moved into a 42-24 lead. L. Wolfe headed into the double digit category with five more points.

L. Wolfe took over with nine points in the third period and Mason Hull and G. Wolfe knocked in a three-pointer each. EHS held a 65-30 lead at that point.

G. Wolfe finished with 27 points to lead the Hearts. The 6-foot senior knocked in seven three-pointers.

Also in double figures were L. Wolfe with 19 and Jacob Donaldson with 10.

At Effingham

Effingham St. Anthony played host to South Central in National Trail Conference action and pounded the Cougars 86-29.

The Bulldogs stepped out to a 24-5 opening quarter lead as Alex Deters connected for nine points and Drew Gibson checked in with seven.

Gibson then took over with nine points in the second period and the Bulldogs pushed ahead 47-16. St. Anthony continued its torrid pace with a 21-8 third quarter as Gibson added seven more points.

The 6-foot-3 senior finished with 30 points while Deters chipped in with 18. Three playeres had eight each, Adam Levitt, Jack Nuxoll and Alex Beesley.

South Central was led by Trent Geiler with 15.

St. Anthony won the junior varsity game 76-31.

At Neoga

Altamont and Neoga played close in the first three quarters but Altamont got it all together in the final period with an 18-2 run to pull out a 63-36 win in National Trail Conference action Tuesday evening.

The score was tied at 10-10 in the first period before Altamont edged ahead 29-20 at halftime. Altamont then had a 15-14 third quarter edge before exploding in the final period.

Three players finished in double figures for Altamont. Sam Childerson, a 6-foot-4 senior, tallied 21 points to lead the way while Ryan Armstrong scored 19 and Mitchell Stevenson 11.

Neoga was led by Caleb Hill with 13 and Drew Ramert with 10. Neoga drops to 8-18 on the season.

Altamont claimed the junior varsity game 54-32.

At St. Elmo

Nokomis jumped out to a 27-17 halftime lead and went on to tally a 51-33 non-conference victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown Tuesday.

Nokomis had a 24-16 second half. Four players hit double figures for the winners. Nokomis improves to 18-7.

St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Landon Feezel with 18 points. SEB dropped to 14-8 on the season.

Pana came calling and picked up a 47-40 win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg.

Windsor/Stew-Stras edged out to a 12-9 opening quarter lead but Pana came back strong with a 17-6 second period to lead 26-18 at halftime. The Hatchets had a 13-11 third quarter but Pana got back on track with a 10-9 final period.

Chase Thies tallied 12 for the Hatchets while Christian Kessler scored 10. The Hatchets drop to 13-11 on the season. Pana improved to 14-10.

Pana won the junior varsity game 47-28.

Cumberland picked up a victory over Martinsville 71-64. The Pirates stepped out to a 24-12 opening quarter lead and led 32-29 at halftime. The Pirates then put on another run in the third period, 22-17 and held off the Bluestreaks in the final quarter.

Tyson Magee led the way with 19 points while Conner Butler tallied 15 and Zach Wolke 14 for the Pirates.

Butler connected on three trifectas.

Newton fell to Charleston in a non-conference contest Tuesday evening, 63-44.

The Eagles trailed Charleston 31-24 at halftime but played the Trojans even in the third quarter. Charleston then went on a 19-7 final period tear.

Ben Carr led the Eagles with 12 points. He connected on three trifectas in the contest.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City had two players in double figures. Aaron Nohren, a 6-foot-4 senior, tallied 20 points while Trey Buzzard scored 10. CHBC was playing without one of its leading scorers, Konner Blackerby who was out with an illness.
