CHBC, Dieterich, Newton Nab Girls Basketball Wins

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City claimed a 64-56 non-conference win over Sandoval in girls basketball competition Tuesday evening.

The Blackhawks took a 22-19 opening quarter lead but CHBC came back with a 19-14 second period to lead 38-36 at halftime. CHBC then had a 26-20 second half.

Tabitha Endsley led the way with 15 points for the winners while Felicia Johnson added 14 and Jaelyn Robertson 11.

At Cowden

At Martinsville

Dieterich had big-scoring second and third quarters in taking a 42-27 win over Martinsville Tuesday.

Martinsville held a 6-4 opening quarter lead but the Movin' Maroons came back with a 17-1 second quarter and a 14-5 third period.

Anna Shadle tallied 18 points for the winners while Gracie Britton chipped in with 12. Cassie Vahling and Jennifer Robards had six rebounds each. Shadle had four assists and six steals. The Maroons are 6-19 on the season.

At Martinsville

At Newton

Newton pounded Palestine/Hutsonville 57-10 Tuesday evening.

The Eagles had a 27-8 halftime lead then held Palestine/Hutsonville scoreless in the third period.

Abby Frohning led with 14 points while 13 players scored in the contest for the Eagles. Grace Hartrich led in rebounds with nine while Frohning and Kaitlyn Cohorst had five each. Hartrich led in assists with three. Cohorst had eight steals while Olivia Shipman had five, Frohning four and Mariah Earnest three.

The Eagles are 19-7 on the season.

The junior varsity game was against Altamont and Newton won 42-33.

North Clay (Louisville) fell to Wayne City 58-36 in girls basketball action Thursday.

The two teams played to a 12-12 opening quarter tie before Wayne City moved ahead 23-20 at halftime then had a 35-16 second half.

Wayne City hit only nine field goals with the majority of its points coming from the free throw line with 38 of 41. Bass, who tallied 30 points, conencted on 22 of 24.

Norht Clay was led by Taylor Jones with 11 points.
