Former and present Teutopolis High School players celebrate 1,000 victories in the school's history.

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School celebrated 1,000 girls basketball victories in the school's history Monday evening by adding to that total with a 70-56 win over Breese Mater Dei.

The Wooden Shoes were celebrating 1,000 victories by having former players and coaches attend. They also celebrated senior night.

In the game, Mater Dei edged out to a 14-12 opening quarter lead on the Shoes but T-town came back to move ahead 27-25 at halftime as Shelby Thompson connected for seven points and Raegan Drees nailed a three-pointer.

The Shoes then came out in the third period and ripped off a 27-16 run as Jamie Sandschafer came to life with eight points and nailed 11 more in the final quarter to lead the Shoes with 20. Drees added eight more points and finished with 15.

Also in double figures were Thompson with 15 and Jolene Bueker with 14.

Sandschafer had three assists in the contest. Thompson led in rebounds with 10 while J. Bueker added six rebounds and four steals. Thompson had three steals.

The Wooden Shoes improve to 23-4 on the season.

At Louisville

Effingham St. Anthony remained unbeaten in the National Trail Conference with a 45-24 win over North Clay (Louisville) Monday evening.

The Bulldogs had a big scoring first quarter, taking a 17-5 lead. Abby Weis went crazy from three-point range, connecting on three and finished with 11 points in the period.

"We got off to a great 12-0 start," said St. Anthony Coach Bart Wiedman. "Abby shot the ball real well and was real assertive."

The Bulldogs held that same 12 point margin at halftime, 27-15 then had an 18-9 second half.

Weis finished with 21 points for the Bulldogs while Abbie Schmidt added nine points. The Bulldogs stand at 19-8 overall.

North Clay was led by Cassidy Coble with six points.

St. Anthony also claimed the junior varsity game 30-20.

The Bulldogs will be back in action Thursday hosting  Brownstown/St. Elmo on Senior night. There will be a varsity only contest at 7:15 p.m. with the seniors being honored at 7 p.m.

Altamont handed Neoga 62-52 National Trail Conference loss Monday evening.

Neoga stepped out to a 17-9 opening quarter lead but Altamont turned the tables and came back to lead 27-25 at halftime.

Neoga then rallied for a 15-11 third period to lead 40-38 going into the final period. But Altamont rallied once again with a 24-12 final quarter to pull out the victory.

Tinley Mette tallied 13 points while Carly McHugh and Jacie Hosick added 10 each for Altamont.

Neoga was led by Blair Banning with 18 and Jaycie Roy with 14. Neoga drops to 16-11 on the season.

Windsor/Stew-Stras had a big 23-5 second period and never looked back in the victory. Theresa Davis, a 5-foot-9 freshman, led the way with 21 points. Also in double figures were Nikki Trussell with 15, Becca Schlechte with 14 and Megan Schlechte with 10.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and St. Elmo/Brownstown were tied at 16-16 at halftime.

SEB edged ahead 26-24 going into the final period when CHBC came back to tie the scoring sending the game into overtime. In the overtime period, SEB had a 10-2 run to pull out the 45-37 National Trail Conference victory.

Hitting double figures for SEB were Elissa Baron with 13 followed by Dana Shelton with 12 and Elizabeth Johnson and Brandi Howard with 10 each.

CHBC was led by Jaelyn Robertson with 15 points.

Cumberland picked up a 49-43 win over Martinsville Monday evening.

The two teams played to an 8-8 opening quarter tie. Martinsville moved ahead 22-20 at halftime but the Pirates came roaring back in the third quarter with a 17-8 run and held on for the six-point win.

Liberty Dunaway tallied 17 points while Skylar Brumleve scored 13 and Danae Sowers 12.
