Effingham Junior High School pounded Decatur Jefferson 53-29 in its own Class 4A Boys Basketball Regional Saturday.

The Mustangs stepped out to a 24-12 first half lead and never looked back.

Wolfe tallied 29 for the winners who improve to 15-6 on the season. Briggerman and N. Thompson had six rebounds each. Wolfe added five steals.

In other Saturday scores, Taylorville beat Stephen Decatur 34-30 and Charleston won over Mattoon 31-19.

Effingham will now face Charleston today at 7 p.m. in the second game of the evening. In the opener Mount Zion meets Taylorville at 6.

Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Three games were contested Saturday at the Sigel St. Michael Regional.

In the opener, Effingham Sacred Heart beat Newton St. Thomas 53-26.

The second contest went to Dieterich over Windsor 62-24.

The final game was claimed by Martinsville with a 48-20 win over Stewardson-Strasburg.

Sacred Heart now meets Sigel St. Michael at 6 p.m. today followed by Dieterich taking on Martinsville at 7:15.

 

Class 8-2A Neoga Regional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and Findlay Okaw Valley advanced from the Class 8-2A Neoga Regional Saturday.

CHBC won over Ramsey 34-22 while Findlay Okaw Valley downed Kansas 36-26.

CHBC will meet Paris Crestwood at 6 p.m. Tuesday followed by Neoga taking on Findlay Okaw Valley at 7:15.

 

Class 8-2A Effingham St. Anthony Regional

North Clay (Louisville) picked up a victory Saturday in opening round play at the St. Anthony Regional.

North Clay defeated Altamont 33-29. There was no score reported on the Hutsonville vs. Oblong game.

North Clay advances to face host St. Anthony at 5 p.m. today followed by St. Elmo/Brownstown against the winner of the Hutsonville/Oblong game at 6:15.

 

Class 8-3A Teutopolis Regional

Three games were on tap Saturday in the Teutopolis Regional.

Lawrenceville Parkview edged Red Hill (Bridgeport) 42-39 in the opener.

The second game went to Casey-Westfield over Jasper County 45-20. Casey-Westfield stepped out to a 16-3 opening quarter lead and never looked back.

Jasper County was led by Einhorn with 12 points. Jasper County finished at 1-20.

The final game was claimed by Cumberland over Robinson Nuttall 48-31.

Teutopolis will meet Lawrenceville Parkview at 6 p.m. today while Casey-Westfield takes on Cumberland at 7:30.
