Altamont, WSS Win at NTC Tourney; Wednesday 1-25-2017 Basketball Scores

The Altamont Indians and the Windsor/Stew-Stras Hatchets were Wednesday winners at the 82nd Annual National Trail Conference Tourney. The night's coverage began on 979XFM, but had to be relocated to KJ Country 102.3 due to a power failure in the 979 studio.

Altamont led 18-7 after the first quarter, but Neoga pulled to within 32-22 at halftime and was still within 49-34 after three quarters. An 18-15 fourth quarter edge gave Altamont the 18-point victory.

Altamont made 41% of its shots, 22 of 54, including 4 of 14 threes. Altamont was 19 of 28 from the line, turned the ball over just 10 times and grabbed 40 rebounds.

Neoga made 19 of 55 shots, 35%, including 5 of 12 threes. Neoga made 6 of 12 foul shots, committed 10 turnovers and pulled down 23 rebounds.

Altamont featured a balanced scoring attack, with Ryan Armstrong scoring 14 points, Evan Cornett 13 points, and Mitchell Stevenson 11 points. Also for Altamont: Sam Childerson 9, Drake Williams and Alek Biggs 6 each, Wyatt Stone 5, and Jesus Flores 1.

Mitchell Cornell led Neoga with 12 points while Caleb Hill scored 10 points. Also for Neoga: Jackson Clark 9, Drew Ramert 8, Clayton Butler 6, Trevor Roy 3, and Trevor Fletcher 1.

Altamont improved to 11-9 while Neoga fell to 6-15. Neoga will turn around and play North Clay in the 5pm game Thursday, while Altamont will take on Windsor/Stew-Stras in the second game Friday night.

In the second contest, Windsor/Stew-Stras was consistent, scoring 16 points in each of the first three quarters and then 22 points in the fourth period. It was 16-13 Hatchets after one quarter, but CHBC came back to take a 34-32 halftime lead. Windsor/Stew-Stras moved back on top 48-44 after three quarters and then outscored CHBC 22-15 in the fourth quarter to win by 11 points.

Windsor/Stew-Stras and CHBC each shot 43% from the field, WSS 21 of 49 including 4 of 10 threes, and CHBC 25 of 58 including 4 of 17 threes. Windsor/Stew-Stras made 24 of 32 foul shots while CHBC made five of just six shots from the line. Windsor/Stew-Stras had a huge 39-19 rebound edge, and the Hatchets turned the ball over 10 times to just seven times for the Bobcats.

The Hatchets finished with four players in double figures, led by Nic Hutchinson with 21 points, along with 16 points from Chase Thies, 11 points from Christian Kessler, and 10 points from Josh Overbeck. Also for the Hatchets: Isaac Kramer 8 and Gavin Bennett 4.

Aaron Nohren led CHBC with 19 points while Konner Blackerby scored 14 points. Also for the Bobcats: Mason Stewart 8, Cody Grove 7, Trey Buzzard 4, Brody Phillips 3, and Marshall Nohren and Nick Miller 2 apiece.

Windsor/Stew-Stras improved to 11-8 on the season, while CHBC slipped to 8-9.

Windsor/Stew-Stras will play Altamont in the second game Friday night, while CHBC will play the winner of Thursday's 5pm game between North Clay and Neoga Friday at 6:15pm.

Tonight at Altamont: 5pm--North Clay vs.Neoga...6:15pm--Dieterich vs. South Central...7:45pm--St. Anthony vs. St. Elmo/Brownstown. Again, all three games Thursday and the rest of the week's action will be on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com.
