SIGEL -- Sigel St. Michael captured the championship of its own Class 7-1A boys basketball regional Tuesday evening.

The Sharpshooters jumped out to a 16-3 opening quarter lead on Stewardson-Strasburg and led 32-13 going into the final period.

Croy tallied 18 for the winners while Young added eight.

Stew-Stras was led by Kirby with nine and Vonderheide with seven. Stew-Stras finishes the season with a 16-9 record.

St. Michael heads to its own sectional Tuesday, February 1 against the winner of the Sacred Heart Pana Regional, either Pana Sacred Heart or Pocahontas who meet Thursday for the championship.

Class 7-2A Findlay Okaw Valley Regional

Neoga and Findlay Okaw Valley advanced to the championship of the Class 7-2A Findlay Okaw Valley Regional.

Findlay Okaw Valley defeated Paris Crestwood 42-34 in the opening game.

In the second contest, Neoga edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 38-34.

Findlay Okaw Valley and Neoga will meet at 6 p.m. today for the championship.

 

Class 7-4A Taylorville Regional

Stephen Decatur handed Charleston a 54-36 loss in the Class 7-4A Taylorville Regional to win the championship.

Stephen Decatur advances to the Effingham Sectional February 1 at 6:30 p.m. against either Springfield Grant or Chatham Glenwood who play tonight for the championship of the Springfield Grant Regional.

 

At Carlyle

Effingham played its last regular season eighth-grade contests and took two wins over Carlyle Tuesday evening.

The Mustangs won the A game 64-34. Wolfe tallied 26 points while Woelfer added 15 in the victory. Lee and Woelfer led the team in steals with five each. N. Thompson and Wolfe pulled down seven rebounds each. Stoneburner led in assists with eight.

Effingham ends regular season play with a 14-6 record. The squad will meet Decatur Jefferson at noon Saturday in its own Class 8-4A Regional.

In the B contest, Effingham won 41-21 over Carlyle to finish at 2-2.

Barnes and Logan tallied 10 points each for the Mustangs. Logan had six steals while Barnes had 10 rebounds.

At Greenville

Teutopolis claimed two eighth-grade victories over Greenville Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes won the eighth-grade A competition 37-16. T-town took a 19-2 opening half lead and never looked back. Kremer tallied 10 to lead the Shoes.

In the eighth-grade B game, T-town won 67-32. T-town held Greenville to 10 points while running up a 32-10 halftime lead.

Kremer scored 14 while Mersman added 13, B. Mette 10 and Weidner 10 for the Shoes.
