St. Anthony, SEB Win at NTC Tourney

St. Anthony and St. Elmo/Brownstown were winners Tuesday night at the 82nd Annual National Trail Conference Tournament in Altamont. 

Top-seeded St. Anthony defeated Dieterich 65-40, while SEB won over South Central 68-52. Both games, as well as the entire tournament, aired on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com with both live video and audio streaming.

St. Anthony steadily pulled away from the Movin Maroons in the first half, leading 18-11 after one quarter and 34-17 at halftime. Dieterich closed to within 43-30 after three quarters, but the Bulldogs outscored Dieterich 22-10 in the final period to post the 25-point win.

St. Anthony made exactly half their shots, 24 of 48, including 2 of 6 threes. The Bulldogs also made 15 of 18 foul shots, committed just 10 turnovers, and grabbed 32 rebounds. Dieterich made just 15 of 47 shots, 32%, including 2 of 13 threes. The Movin Maroons made 8 of 12 foul shots, committed just eight turnovers and pulled down 22 rebounds.

Drew Gibson led St. Anthony with 21 points on 8 of 14 shooting. Jack Nuxoll added 15 points on 6 of 11 shooting. Also for the Bulldogs: Cade Walsh, Alex Beesley and Adam Levitt each with 7 points, and Wyatt Lawrence and Ben Strullmyer each with 4 points. Alex Deters rolled an ankle in the first quarter and missed the rest of the game.

Ryan Radloff led Dieterich with 16 points. Callaway Campton scored 8 points, Tyler Higgs and Devin Flach 7 each, and Cole Niebrugge 2 points.

St. Anthony is now 19-1, while Dieterich falls to 9-12.

In the other contest, a last second three tied the SEB/South Central game at 15-15 after one quarter. South Central hit a three to take an 18-15 lead to start the second period and SEB then outscored the Cougars 25-5 in the remainder of the quarter to lead 40-23 at halftime. It was 55-37 after three quarters.

SEB shot 47% from the field, 26 of 55, including 6 of 19 threes. The Eagles made 9 of 15 foul shots, turned the ball over just seven times and only three times through the first three quarters, and grabbed 28 rebounds.

South Central hit 51% from the field, 21 of 41, including 6 of 13 threes. The Cougars made 4 of 9 free throws, turned the ball over a whopping 19 times, and pulle down 20 rebounds.

Landon Feezel had a big night for the Eagles, scoring 23 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Isaac Maxey scored 22 points including four threes. Lewis Brown scored 17 points for the Eagles. Also for SEB: Klayton Kroll, Dylan Brooks and Nate Philpot with 2 points apiece.

Trevor Markley led South Central with 19 points. Also for the Cougars: Trent Geiler 12, Ryan Matheny and Logan Lotz 9 each, and Ryan McCown 3.

SEB improves to 11-6 on the season, while South Central slipped to 7-11.

Dieterich will play South Central in the 6:15 game Thursday, while St. Anthony will take on SEB in the following contest to see who will advance to the tournament championship game Saturday night.

Wednesday's action will feature Altamont and Neoga at 6:15pm, followed by Windsor/Stew-Stras and CHBC.
