SIGEL -- Dieterich, Stewardson-Strasburg and Newton St. Thomas advanced from opening round play at the Class 7-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional Saturday.

Dieterich opened with a 38-19 win over Effingham Sacred Heart.

The second contest went to Stewardson-Strasburg over Martinsville 49-28. Stew-Stras held a 28-12 hafltime lead and had a 10-3 third period.

Kirby tallied 14 and Vonderheide 10 for the winners who improve to 15-8.

In the final game of the day, Newton St. Thomas handed Windsor a 34-32 loss.

The regional continues today with Sigel St. Michael against Dieterich at 6 p.m. followed by Stewardson-Strasburg taking on Newton St. Thomas at 7:15. The winners advance to the title contest Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Class 7-2A North Clay (Louisville) Regional

In the opening game of this regional, Hutsonville downed Altamont 41-17.

Hutsonville held Altamont scoreless in the opening quarter while taking an 8-0 lead. Altamont tallied one point in the second quarter and trailed Hutsonville 21-1.

Gary Higginbotham tallied 17 for the winners. Altamont was led by Suckow with four.

In the second game, St. Elmo/Brownstown downed Oblong 21-14. SEB edged out to a 9-6 opening half lead then had a 12-8 second half.

Nathan Grull tallied 10 for the winners.

Hutsonville advances to face Effingham St. Anthony at 6 p.m. today while St. Elmo/Brownstown will take on North Clay (Louisville) at 7:30. The winners advance to the championship game Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.

Class 7-2A Findlay Okaw Valley  Regional

Paris Crestwood and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City nabbed victories in the Findlay Okaw Valley Regional.

Prais Crestwood opened with a 45-27 win over Ramsey.

In the second game, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City trounced Kansas 66-14.

Findlay Okaw Valley will now meet Paris Crestwood Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. followed by Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City against Neoga at 6:45. The winners advance to the championship Wednesday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 7-3A Teutopolis Regional

Jasper County will now face top-seeded Teutopolis after picking up a 33-22 win over Cumberland Saturday.

In the second game, Casey-Westfield edged Robinson Nuttall 31-28.

The third contest went to Red Hill (Bridgeport) over Lawrenceville Parkview 32-25.

Jasper County meets Teutopolis at 6 p.m. today followed by Casey-Westfield taking on Red  Hill at 7:30. The winners meet Thursday for the championship at 6.

 

Class 7-4A Taylorville Regional

Efifngham saw its season come to a close in the Taylorville Regional. The Mustangs fell to host Taylorville 44-22.

In other games, Mattoon edged Mount Zion 34-32 and Stephen Decatur downed Decatur Jefferson 58-41.

Charleston now meets Mattoon today at 6 p.m. followed by Taylorville against Stephen Decatur at 7:15. The winners advance to the championship Tuesday at 6 p.m.
