On a night when shots weren't falling for most players, Effingham's Carsyn Fearday scored 22 points to lead the Hearts to a 43-35 victory over the Charleston Trojans in girls basketball action Monday.

The Apollo Conference clash was heard on KJ Country 102.3 and www.kjcountry.com

Effingham broke on top 5-0, but saw Charleston bounce back to trail just 11-9 after one quarter. A 9-4 second quarter left the Hearts in front 20-13 at halftime.

Charleston finally got the lid off in the second half, coming back to lead by one on two occasions. The Trojans trailed 30-26 after three quarters after Natalie Carie hit a buzzer beater three pointer for Effingham. Charleston, though, tied the game at 30-30 and then took the lead briefly. Effingham clawed back and regained the lead and then held on with some clutch foul shooting, a three by Fearday and Shelby Myers' bucket. Effingham outscored Charleston 13-9 in the fourth quarter to post the eight-point win.

Effingham made just 14 of 45 shots, 31%, including 6 of 22 threes. They made 9 of 13 foul shots, turned the ball over 13 times and grabbed 36 rebounds.

Charleston made just 12 of 45 shots, 27%, including 3 of 17 threes. They made 8 of 14 foul shots, committed just seven turnovers and pulled down 28 boards.

In addition to Fearday's 22 points, Aly Armstrong and Natalie Carie each scored seven points for Effingham, Shelby Myers four, and Miranda Fox three.

Aislinn Parish and Allyson O'Dell each scored 10 points for Charleston, now 14-5 on the season.

The Lady Hearts, meanwhile, improved to 17-1 on the campaign with the opportunity to avenge that loss on Thursday at Mattoon. We'll have the game on KJ Country 102.3.
