WSS To Play For Fifth Place at Arthur Holiday Classic

ARTHUR -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg High School will be playing for fifth place at the Arthur Girls Holiday Basketball Classic after picking up a victory Thursday evening.

The Hatchets defeated Shelbyville 56-33. WSS took a 36-16 halftime lead and never looked back. Megan Schlechte, a 5-foot-10 sophomore, tallied 20 points for the winners. Schlechte connected on nine field goals and was two of four at the line. Becca Schlechte scored 11.

Earlier in the day, WSS fell to Tri-County 65-29. Tri-County held a 28-16 halftime lead then had a 37-13 second half.

M. Schlechte scored 19 as the lone Hatchet player in double figures.

Cumberland will be playing for seventh place after suffering two losses.

The Pirates fell to Decatur St. Teresa 53-8. St. Teresa led 34-4 at halftime.

In the second game, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond was a 59-13 winner.

Cumberland was led by Skylar Brumleve with six points.

In other games, Chrisman beat Shelbyville 58-33, Tri-County won over Chrisman 54-27, ALAH beat Oakwood 61-37 and Oakland edged St. Teresa 53-50.

The tourney will come to an end today with Shelbyville facing Cumberland at 2 p.m. for seventh place, Windsor/Stew-Stras against St. Teresa at 3:30 for fifth place, Chrisman taking on Oakwood at 5 for third place and Tri-County against ALAH at 6:30 for the championship.
